The Darkness Beyond the Stars by Frank Robinson. I think he only ever wrote one novel?

The movie "The Towering Inferno" is based in part on a novel he co-wrote. I think the issue with Frank Robinson is not so much that he was a one-hit wonder as he was much more a short story writer, and that the majority of his SF output came when the field was dominated by the shorter forms. Disclaimer: I have read the entire decade of the fifties for Astounding, Galaxy, and (Worlds of) If magazines. |

Vaseleos Garson - Acid Bath, at least I liked it and would have liked to read more by him.

I would propose:
"Dreamsnake" by Vonda N McIntyre "War of the Oaks" by Emma Bull (Ok - it's fantasy , but a good one) "Armor" by John Steakley |

Z for Zachariah, Robert C. O'Brien
Post-apocalytic YA SF. Quite dark for young adult fiction. |

Some feel Steakley's "Armor" is the best military sci-fi book ever written. I'm more of a Haldeman fan but not by much. It's really very good. Anyway, you can be sure in any discussion of the sub-genre by real fans of it, Steakley's name will come up in the top 3 or 4.

I would like to add A Canticle For Leibowitz by Walter Miller Jr. He wrote several short stories and a sequel novel, but I think this one still remains one of the best post-apocalyptic novels ever written. Especially the ending, which is very haunting and will stay with you long after you have read the book.
