Thanks for the link, m-reader.

But I wish they would offer their subscription as an e-magazine in pdf rather than a paper magazine. The American Skeptic is the same - they insist on paper.

I have all my bank statements and utility bills come electronically only. I'm overseas for long periods, so it's much more convenient. I don't want to go back to getting stuff in my mail box.

Maybe a forum member in the magazine industry could explain why publishers seem so averse to e-subscriptions.

Good feeback, I'll drop 'em a line and get them to start charging people for PDF edition instead of giving it away for free. Oh, wait ...

Seriously, these guys are non-for-profit. At the same time they are very techie savvy, but I think they've figured that giving PDF away for free is probably easier.

BTW, the "m" in reader is beacuse of Melbourne originally, but as I am in the Magic Kingdom at the moment (KSA) it still works.

Although it's not billed as a skeptical publisher, the Westar Institute (home of the Jesus Seminar and publishers of The Five Gospels) does contribute to Enlightenment ideals by applying the methodologies of science and historical research to Biblical and Bible-related texts.

I recently send the following letter to them via snail-mail:

While I realize that a book like The Five Gospels: What Did Jesus Really Say? The Search for the Authentic Words of Jesus by Robert W. Funk, Roy W. Hoover, and The Jesus Seminar is not suited for the present generation of non-color e-book readers (in the book the Fellows of the Seminar employ a four-color code to rate whether words attributed to Jesus are things they feel the historical Jesus actually said), they do publish a considerable amount of other material that would be perfectly fine for e-ink displays.

In 2008, Julia Sweeney (atheist, former Saturday Night Live alumni, and author of Letting Go of God) teamed up with Jill Sobule (who co-wrote "I Kissed a Girl" with Robin Eaton) for a performance of "The Jill and Julia Show" at one of the TED Talks.
