Do you think it counts if I actually bought it for someone else? I mean, it is not really my purchase then is it? So my chances for the lottery should stand.

They would be better if I actually bought lottery tickets though.

I knew that some Targets had clearanced them out at 70. So I just went in everyweek. I thought for sure they would sell it before it got that low. They were waiting at least two weeks between markdowns and they just marked this one down yesterday, so I figured at that price it probably would not last another two weeks on the clearance shelf, so I just went ahead and got it.

After messing with it today, I am tempted to keep it for myself and give her my pink one. I love the bigger screen size and the two different ways you can change pages. But it is bigger and heavier than my 300.

You made a terrible mistake to buy the 505. To assuage your guilt, I will gladly take it off your hands for a small discount from the price you paid.

The 505 is a beautiful wee machine, EliNoah. Your sister's lucky. Cheers. Neil

I wouldn't trade my 505 for a 300, probably not even a 600. The screen is great, it has more features than the 300. You got a better machine for less money - why the buyer's remorse?

My target was all out of the Sony 505, but there is a staples next door in the same strip. Sure enough I walked into Staples and on the clearance table there is 1 silver 505 new in the box for a very cool $98.00 that was today (11/19).

That was really weird to find the item at Staples, because this particular Staples never carried any ereaders in the past, and they don't even carry the new Sony readers. So all please check your local Staples. I haven't checked there website yet so it may be available on Staples.com.

This made my day since I did not go into staples for seeking out a e-reader. The reader was on a clearance table right as you walk into the front door so I'm equally suprised that it was sitting there, but they only had 1 on the table.

Haven't found any clearance readers, but I did get a lightwedge cover for the 505 for $12.50.

BUT, do *definitely* check to see what version of the firmware you have, because you might need an upgrade. The unit I got hadn't had the firmware upgrade necessary for reading epubs (and boy, it was an adventure figuring that out, being as I'm on a Mac and had to borrow a Windows computer to do it...) so it's *really* important to check to be sure! Other than that slight hiccup, though, my experience with it has been great.
I just bought a demo unit from the Sony store, at a very nice price. Not $139 nice, but nice! I deleted the stuff they had on it, downloaded my stuff, and it seems fine. How can I tell if it needs a firmware upgrade? I had converted all of my html books to EPub on Calibre prior to making the purchase, and I am able to read them with no problem. May I assume all is well?

You can check the firmware version on the Reader - Settings - About page

Mine (which I bought a couple of months back) was already up to date.

If you can read ePubs on it, then it's up to date.

How very lucky to be finding such great deals on the 505! A month ago I paid $275 Canadian for mine, which I thought was quite expensive for a two year old reader that was discontinued. I was torn between waiting for the price to come down or buying one asap before there weren't any left.

Thank goodness I didn't wait, as it is now very difficult to find a new 505. My other option was to get the 300, but the smaller screen really didn't do it for me.

The 505 I bought already had the new firmware version on it too. So it must have been a newer one.

I was glad I did not have to mess with that.

There are definitely somethings about the 505 that are nicer than the 300. Being able to delete the book and clear all bookmarks without having to go to the book itself is very nice. They make it almost impossible on the 300.

You have to go back to the home page and then make your way to the book. There is no way to do this while you are in reading mode. It is very frustrating.

I think it is funny. Ereaders are the most low-tech, high tech device you can buy...

Ah, but isn't that the nature of the activity. Civilization has been built on paper books since Gutenberg -- definitely low-tech, but tech never-the-less.
