So what am I doing RIGHT NOW?

Reading short stories by one of our newest MobileForum members, Simon Wood. They're quite entertaining and lots of fun to read. I know he has novels for sale, but I'm going to try and see if he has any short story collections for sale as well.

If you haven't done so already, you can say "Welcome" to him at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62043.

Just finished to set up a new tv with vhs that was given to me by Le Terrible couple (I think my appartment might be their favorite outlet for old stuff they would otherwise throw in the garbage), and getting ready to watch old tapes - definitely starting with the third Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Very nice, same size as mine, and mine's an Acer, too - but with the Atom processor.

As for what I'm doing - Chris decided to upgrade his phone via Walmart's cell kiosk. He had an upgrade coming for months, but couldn't pick between the BlackBerry Tour and the new Motorola Droid. He picked the Tour; but what we didn't know was that Walmart was running a promotion that if you upgraded and extended your contract, you got a $100.00 gift card. We spent it on a bread machine for me, so what I'm doing is trying to figure out how to use it!

1. I love the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

2. That's what parents do (how else do we justify getting new stuff?)

3. I totally understand. When my son and I moved back down close to my patents, I had sold most of my furniture from our house (the new house we bought was smaller). I planned on buying new stuff after the moving van delivered what I had saved and after I decided what would fit. Well, loving family that I have, the parents, sis-in-laws, and an aunt decided to "help" and donated items to our new home. They were so happy to "help" and love seeing their stuff have a home in my home. At least my mom said thanks for giving her a reason for getting new stuff.

4. My son just bought a house and guess what? I plan on "gifting" him just as I was "gifted". Definately looking forward to that because that what family is for, right?

5. I'm already looking at new carpet and couches.

I don't know if you'll need it, but here's a link to some great recipes! As Kindlekitten said, you're in for a treat! Enjoy!

Then my day to own new furniture will come? Nothing that I have I actually bought!

Am I reading that your son will inherit what your family gave you at first? Talk about recycling! You can see your gifts as a great environmental gesture also, that's wonderful! And mostly, congrats to your son for his new house! It must be so exciting on so many different levels!

Any luck in finding the perfect couches and carpet?

I understand your quandary, Verencat. you want your choices, your stamp on your personal space. And yet....

What do you do with well made stuff? I bought bedroom furniture when I started out, back in the very early 1980's. I bought quality, well built furniture. It's nearly 30 years old, and still looks showroom new, and functions perfectly. It'll still be good furniture when I die.

My parent's bought a used(!) dining room set for my brother when he bought a house. It's been in everyday use for 30 years, and it's still in good shape, after 69 years (built in 1940).

Yep! You just have to be a nice friend, cousin, aunt,, mom, etc and "help" them out by "gifting" a few things.. Then, it becomes a perfect excuse to get new stuff.

Yes, I can't wait to pass those "gifted" pieces on. That way no one gets hurt feelings when they don't see them in my house anymore. My son only lives about 40 minutes from me so it is very exciting. He had to buy a house for a tax deduction as he is officially out of residency and making money now. (just a few more years and school loans will be paid!)

I have to wait until the last of his stuff is moved out. He is going to take the piano also, so that is one less thing that has to be moved when I tear up carpet.

I have the same "problem". I have a bedroom set that was bought when I was 16. I took it when I moved out at 18. It traveled into and out of state as I got older. I put it in my son's room when he was born and he took it when he moved out. When stuff is made well, it really lasts.

My parents were given 2 round oak dinning tables (from my great grandma) when they bought their house. Later, they cut the legs down and made them into coffee tables. My brother took one when he moved out, and they are both still being used. Good stuff just lasts.

Getting an SSH client set up on my Tour, starting my 3rd laptop repair of the weekend, and going to take pics of my Curve to put on Fleabay.

Nice quiet Sunday. We need more of those around here.

Musing on my mis-spent youth.
The final scenes of the latest Doctor Who episode were set in Victoria Place, Newport; directly outside a house where some friends of mine lived (before the street got restored in the mid 1970s). I remember some memorable parties there, also at the end house (next to the chapel) which briefly became a squat before the redevelopment got started. I have a feeling that I painted flowers over a lot of the interior walls...
