Ah, yes, well ... never mind!

Who knows how the rat ended up there. For all I know, the parents may have had to return it, and the folks at the Feed and Seed store may have assured the little girl that they would find a good home for it. But, yes; once an animal has been someone's pet, and has been domesticated to the extent where it easily bonds with humans, it does seem a bit low to sell it as a feeder.
