farking POST !!!!!!

making me get up EARLY on a SATURDAY and rush there before they close, and walk all over the city on my injured foot to pick up a package i urgently needed and should have had a week ago !

i ordered a new batch of allergy desensitisation treatment over 3 weeks ago. it takes 10 days or so for the laboratory to make it, but should only take about 2 days for the post office to deliver it to me.

instead they've been apparently playing easter egg hunt with it since last thursday.

the problem with this is :
1. the treatment must be refrigerated ; it can survive the short transit via the post but not indefinitely. for all i know, the 10 vials i finally collected are now useless.
2. i have to take this treatment every day, and if i miss more than one week, all the previous progress is lost and i have to start the whole process from the beginning. it's a very long (several years) process of progressively higher doses, and i've been following it already for more than one year and only just recently started to really feel the effects, and the stuff is the most foul-tasting thing you could imagine, so i REALLY don't want to start from zero.
3. i finished the last vial several days ago and before that i was skipping every other day to make it last, so god only knows what my status is now.
4. this stuff costs a bleeding FORTUNE and i am sure that if this batch is ruined the post office is not going to pay for a replacement batch, which would take 2 weeks to get here at the earliest, by which time i would be back to level zero for sure.

when i called the lab last monday (getting worried) they told me according to the online tracker the post had "attempted to deliver" last saturday. this is an outright lie, first, i was at home last saturday morning, second they NEVER deliver packages on saturdays, and third if they do have a package which for whatever reason they cannot deliver (you are not at home, they don't feel like climbing the stairs...) they leave a delivery notice so you can get it yourself from the post office, and i got none, until yesterday. but when i went yesterday evening, the package STILL WASN'T THERE (a FULL WEEK later !!).

now i am tired from a too-short night (wind kept me awake for a long time) and my foot hurts from walking too much and i am feeling REALLY cranky and i can't even take a nap because i have a meeting this afternoon, and i'll have to walk back to right next to the bloody post office for the meeting, but naturally i couldn't make only one trip because the stupid post office will be closed then. AAAARRG !! plus i am worried that i have 4 months' of treatment in my refrigerator which is quite possibly good for the trashbin and that i have to start this stupid treatment from the beginning.

the irony is, every time i see my doctor and she gives me the prescription, i prepare the enveloppe to post it on my way home, and she always laughs and says "you're the only one", because once i had a renewal in may, month of the many many bank holidays, and because of them there were various delays, and i ran out for a week. so since then i always have one or 2 vials in advance and i send the renewal right away to be sure. but she raised my dose last time, so i finished my extra flacon faster than i thought, which still wouldn't have been a problem if the renewal arrived on time, but it had to happen the time when the damned post office is playing games again !!!

AAARRG !!!!

See, I don't understand the mailing of the medication, that's something that never happens here. If something absolutely has to be specially ordered, the drugstore will do it for you, and you'll go pick it up there. I'm sorry for you dear, I hope your weekend gets better from here!

I hope you find the batch is still ok, and you can get back on even keel asap.

Only mailed medication here is "bulk" like several months supplies of "standard" meds.

Here they ship stuff like that with dry ice... it can keep the package cold for quite a while.

Edit: I might agree with them as universal principles, if the rich western world (my self included) seemed just a tad bit more interested in not exploiting but helping less fortunate people around the globe.

Where is the ethics in me opening a 40$ bottle of wine when it could sustain a person in Africa for half a year. The notion that we are ethical because we keep our own little garden neat and fine is laughable imo. We are all sinners. We all live on the corpses of others.

Therefore I find it troublesome when we, the rich, start to cast guilt and blame upon others. We should look inwards first... if we find that we are holy, we may cast the first stone.

as far as i know, this is the rare exception. it has to be made on order by the laboratory, and i imagine there are not 600 laboratories making this stuff. anything else i would get at the pharmacie, and if they don't have it in stock they will order it for me and i pick it up there.

anyway, my meeting got cancelled (probably we'll have it tomorrow), but i didn't take a nap because i wanted to get some work done, but then i didn't get any work done because i was too sleepy... not the greatest day, i have to say.

i did go grocery shopping though.

ugh, i do too. i'm going to call the labo on monday and ask them what they think. hopefully it's fine. (especially because that stuff costs 50€ / vial, and i've got 10 of them in there. i don't even want to type the total, you can do the math yourselves. it's reimbursed by my health insurance, but i'm not sure a replacement batch would be. ). on the other hand, they include a little tiny isotherm bag just the size of one vial with the shipment they send before summer (huh, i must have been taking this stuff for 2 years in fact, because i have 2 of them now) for taking on vacation with you. so i'm pretty sure when they say "keep it cold" they mean it. hopefully the postal warehouses are not heated.

that would seem like an obvious solution, right ? or even just put it in an isotherm bag (they clearly have plenty of them). i guess that would be too easy.

I did the math! I would be ranting also even if it is reimbursed.

Like PilotBOb mentioned, the meds here are shipped with a cold bag packed in a special container. This container is shipped inside another box. I know that the ones shipped to the pharmacy usually have to be delivered before 2 days. I hope that the lab tells you it is OK.
