I'm about 100 (ePub) pages left of Term Limits by Vince Flynn.

Quote:
In one bloody night, three of Washington's most powerful politicians are executed with surgical precision. Their assassins then deliver a shocking ultimatum to the American government: set aside partisan politics and restore power to the people. No one, they warn, is out of their reach—not even the president. A joint FBI-CIA task force reveals the killers are elite military commandos, but no one knows exactly who they are or when they will strike next. Only Michael O'Rourke, a former U.S. Marine and freshman congressman, holds a clue to the violence: a haunting incident in his own past with explosive implications for his country's future....
It's very good. Highly recommended.

I am almost finished a Star Trek novel by Peter David. I am enjoying it. I read many of these as a teenager and it has been fun to revisit them. I will probably collect more of them if I have micropay credits at Fictionwise to burn.

I just downloaded the new JD Robb which I had pre-ordered. They never notified me it was ready so I only noticed because I logged in to do some other stuff and saw the download button. I am very excited. I love this series and it is one of the few longer series that has not declined over time (I am looking at you, Patricia Cornwell and Jonathan Kellerman!) Nora Roberts is a machine, I don't know how she keeps churning them out.

That brings back memories.. many happy hours spent with Star Trek novels in my teens too.

I'm currently reading the Tale of Genji. So far it's been one of the more challenging (and certainly longest) books I've ever tried to read, but I am enjoying it.

Something I rarely do after I've edited, proofed and seen a book through to publication is to re-read it just for fun. But I've made an exception for Steve Attridge's hilarious *Bottom of the List*. You can check out the details at www.bewrite.net. If what you see tickles your fancy, just drop me an email and I'll be happy to send the ebook version (PDF only so far, I'm afraid) free of charge. It really is a hoot. Cheers. Neil

I love the Tale of Genji and have three different translations. I generally prefer the Royall Tyler.
It might be best to approach Heian literature through shorter works. The Diary of Lady Murasaki, or The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon, for example.

Just finished The Last Detective by Robert Crais and it was one of his better novels and gave me my Trashy Detective Novel fix.

I just finished Green for Danger by Christianna Brand. What a great mystery novel! It's set in a military hospital in the English countryside in the bombing raids during WWII and a patient mysteriously dies during a routine operation.

It's not available as an ebook but the paperbackl is worth getting.
Be sure to go to Amazon and click on the link to request this as an ebook.

BTW, I saw the movie version with Alistair Sim years ago. It's recommended also.

My teenage Star Trek books were the original series stories written by James Blish. Are any of those available as e-books?

I agree. her other novels are all readable and well-plotted, but Green for Danger is her masterpiece.

I finished "Wreck of the Medusa," which was OK. Could have been a lot better. Now I'm reading "Close to Shore" by Michael Capuzzo, which is about the 1916 Jersey Shore shark attacks (which inspired the book, and movie, "Jaws"). I've been wanting to read this for a while, so when I saw it at the library I had to get it.

On my Reader I'm reading "The Wicked Duke Takes a Wife" by Jillian Hunter. It's OK, her earlier Boscatles were better.

Another nice review of War on the Margins:http://vulpeslibris.wordpress.com/20...by-libby-cone/

I sure won't ever use the term "nectary velvet" again, though!

I still remember reading Genji about thirty years ago; it was part of the beginning of my obsession with Japan.
I just finished reading Elisa Albert's short story collection, How This Night is Different. Brilliant!

Just finished Zelazny's Amber series (for the nth time) and now am reading "Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks", by Ethan Gilsdorf. Non-fiction, sort of a personal memoir and exploration of why fantasy role-playing, and escapism appeals to people.

I've just finished 'The Penal Colony' by Richard Herley - fast-paced, intelligent and gripping, I enjoyed it very much.

Now about to start Paul Auster's 'The Brooklyn Follies' (not read him before).
