Why doesn't anyone ever mention "Bell, Book and Candle." A great Christmas movie although the theme is a bit unusual.

Probably because it's very long so gives the TV schedulers an easy time; also the womenfolk are in the kitchen (cooking or washing up or something), and the kids are playing with their toys - so it's something to keep the men happy.

Its a wonderful movie, by the way. I'm not slamming it. I'm just having a hard time correlating the movie with the season.

And my reply wsn't meant to be flippant either really. It's just one of those films that, presumably, was shown once or twice around Christmas time and has just kind of stuck from there - I guess it's next to impossible to explain why some things become traditional and some don't.

In the UK there are two X-Mas movie traditions - the Bond film and The Great Escape. You are guaranteed at least one James Bond movie on X-Mas day and The Great Escape is shown near to or on X-Mas day. I'm not sure when the tradition started, but anybody 30+ in the UK is familiar with this scheduling.

True, it's not Christian, but giving gifts at the Winter Solstice is a tradition going back to the ancient Greco-Roman civilization. And still, there was no direct mention of Hecate. And besides, it's a fun film.
