Nope, it isn't.

Future Improvements

We hope you are enjoying this beta version of Kindle for PC and the large selection of Kindle books that are available in the Kindle Store.

As with all our services, we plan to continue improving Kindle for PC. Below are some features we are thinking about bringing to Kindle for PC in the near future:

- Create notes and highlights
Thanks to Whispersync, you can already read your notes and highlights from other devices on Kindle for PC. We'd like to add the ability to create notes and highlights using the Kindle for PC application.

- Search
Find a word or a sentence in the book you are currently reading.

- Zoom and rotate images
Click on an image to see an expanded view and rotate it if desired.
We'd also like to hear from you. Please share your thoughts, feedback, and comments with us. You can send them to the Kindle team at kindleforpc-feedback@amazon.com or via the feedback form available in the application - we'd love to hear what you think!

Sincerely,

The Kindle team
Not bad.

You are talking about the pid for the windows app, right?

"So far, I've been poking around the registry, and not seen anything that has info on the account being used. Not seen any files either. Running a more exhaustive search.

EDIT:
Found a file of some interest at C:\Documents & Settings\usernamegoeshere\Local Settings\Application Data\Amazon\Kindle For PC\{AMAwzsaPaaZAzmZzZQzgZCAkZ3AjA_AY}\kindle.info

The bracketed folder is obviously randomly generated, and the file contains a 10kb string of similarly seemingly random generated characters. My guess, the PID is in there "

Found this in the Kindle for PC thread in the News and Commentary section.

Personally, I think Kindle to PC is a bit of an overkill. I do well with what's available as is.

And while I respect your opinion, I beg to differ. This gives me access to the selection of ebooks at Amazon, which I didn't have before,(because I do not own a Kindle,iPhone, or iPod), so I'm thrilled and don't think it's overkill at all. I can name at least ten titles off the top of my head that I wanted that were available at Amazon for Kindle and noplace else.

That was my thought as well, but the bracketed folder name is NOT randomly generated, I have the same folder name. My kindle.info file is also 12kb, not 10kb.

Also, one of my sample books that I am not sure about buying is using a horribly ugly font that's pretty hard to read. First, the fact it has an embedded font probably means Topaz, right? Secondly, I assume that the full version would probably use the same font, unfortunately?

I loaded Kindle for PC on Windows 7 running on Parallels Desktop for Mac. Every time I try to download one of my archived items to the home tab, I get an error message that the download failed. Wonder if Kindle for PC doesn't like running under Parallels. If so, hopefully Amazon will fix this problem.

Do you have a proxy? I noticed I couldn't download any books at work (behind a proxy), but it worked at home.

The weird part is, I had to turn off my proxy in IE in order for it to work...

I really hate what Amazon did with the pc app. I have an Astak EZ Reader Pro and Mobi fon my blackberry so all of my ebooks are mobi format. I just wanted to check out the software, but it automatically changes all of my unprotected mobi files to Kindle content files and didn't even import them. Is their an easy way to change it back to mobi and the way it was? At this point I just want to unload the damn software and get back to where I was yesterday before I loaded it.

Just right click on one of the .mobi files, click on "open with" then "choose default program". If necessary, browse to the reader.exe file and select it as the default. Now all your mobi files will open the MobiPocket Reader.

My guess is that "kindle.info" is the PID, but it's been hashed all to hell and gone to encrypt it, thereby expanding it a hundredfold or so. Anyone want to go through "Numerical Recipes" and try and find the method used? I'll bet it's in there.

Kindle for PC on a Virtual Machine

I have the EXACT same problem. The Kindle for PC App will register with Amazon.com, show me I have books to download, but fails every time I actually try to download a book. Here is what an Amazon rep emailed me when I asked about Virtual Machine support:

"I don't think it is an issue with the fact you are using a virtual Windows 7 although, we cannot be sure at this time.

I would recommend that you uninstall Kindle for PC and install it again.

Also as you probably know, we're working on a Kindle for Mac application, which will be available in the next few months. So it is probably the fact the virtual Windows 7 is running on an iMac.

At this time, Kindle for PC is only available for customers with a personal computer running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or the new Windows 7.

I'm sorry for not being able to help further as we do not have support for Kindle for PC running on virtual machines."
