Great series!!! I can't believe you haven't heard about them yet, there are quite a few Butcher fans on here. I found that the series stays good throughout too.

I have just started The Siege by Stephen White. I have enjoyed his other books, he is a Colorado author so he uses a lot of local flavor in his novels

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

A classic that I confess to have never gotten around to reading until now. Which is especially ironic since the 1951 Disney adaptation is one of my all time favorite movies.

Saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on DVD and yesterday picked up the Fitzgerald original short story (9.5K) on which it was based. Read it in bed last night -- unlike the movie, there was no attempt to suspend disbelief, the characters were cardboard and the story was flat as a pancake. One of those rare cases where the movie leaves the original way, way behind. Neil

Just finished *The Tide Mill* by Richard Herley. Not a genre I would normally choose to read, but as I very much enjoyed *Penal Colony* and *Refuge* I gave it a try and I recommended it as a thoroughly good read.

Richard Herley is a MR member, his work is available here and is shareware.

Many thanks, Don. Odd how many short stories have been successfully turned into full length feature films by imaginative screen writers. Makes you wonder why the authors didn't go the whole hog in the first place and develop such good ideas. N

Unfortunatley, the most common is the other way around, people have taken a good short story and made it into a horrible, horrible movie adaptation.

I think first and most about Maximum Overdrive, which was inspired by the somewhat decent short story Trucks by Stephen King.

The really bad part about it is of course that the script for MO was done by Stephen himeself, and not only that, he directed it as well.

Silly Puppy.

Not odd at all. Think of how much gets cut out of films made from novels. The short story is often the perfect length for a film, which usually has to show rather than tell.

I just started "The Wreck of the Medusa" by Jonathan Miles, which I just picked up at the library. Also picked up "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell, and "Close to Shore," which is about the Jersey Shore shark attacks. I also found quite a few books I want to read and marked for later. I'm loving my library, it's small enough to not be overwhelming, but has a decent selection. It's much easier to browse

I'm on about page 60 (epub) of 500 of Last Night in Twisted River - Chaper 2 Do-Si-Do and I'm loving the (as Don said) slow steady development of the characters. I just was almost laughing out loud and some of the characters antics, personalities etc. Lovin' this so far. (I put Princess of Mars on simmer for now. ).
