Until this week, I used the internal memory for all my books - using Calibre to transfer the titles. I've now got ~240 titles in the e-library and was beginning to get a little low on internal memory, so I've started to use both the cards available, partly to free up internal memory, partly just to see how it goes. I've organised things so that one entire collection goes on a 64Mb card, and all of the Sony freebies that came with the reader go on t'other card (4Gb). Biggest gripe/problem is that the reader treats (for example) collection 'Fiction' in internal memory as separate and distinct from collection 'Fiction' on an SD card, so when you browse Collections, there are two 'Fiction' listings - the discovery of this nearly generated a posting on the Vent & Rant thread! No data yet as to how battery life will be affected by the use of SD cards. Use of SD cards *seems* to be an attractive option because I want to have the full library with me - I have lots of time to read, but cannot keep the PC with me. |

I use an SD card exclusively! I keep one reader at home and one at work (EZ Reader with LBook firmware and jetBook). I have found that HTML books are acceptable in both so I take the SD card with me. Neither reader has been connected directly to a computer in a long time. I will not ever buy a reader without external storage.

I use a 4GB MS for classics and a 2GB SD for fanfiction, this leaves my internal memory for my favorites (mysteries and romance). For music, I have Creative Zen MP3 player and I don't carry pictures around at all. Since I discovered Calibre, that is the only program I use to upload my books. I've never had any trouble with my cards but that could be that they are barely full (like only 5% used).

I only used a memory card once on my 505--when hacking it for the clock and Russian language. Never used one for books on my 500 or 505. And bought my 300 without any concern about lack of a memory card slot. |

The only thing I have on my internal memory are four of the freebies that I decided I might possibly want to read. The other 300 books (including 430MB of Modesty Blaise comics) are all on a 4GB micro-SDHC card. I haven't noticed any battery problems but I have noticed that the Class 6 cards work much faster than Class 4 (which they should). Edit: I've just remembered that I also have a vintage 128MB miniSD which just has technical books (mostly PDF), including things like repair manuals for all my household appliances, PCs, central heating boiler/timer etc, bios settings Last edited by banjomike; 11-09-2009 at 06:19 PM. |

However, I did start noticing, recently, a decided slow down in starting the k1, and coming out of sleep mode. So since I have an m-edge cover with the little pockets it in, I just load a few of the books I know I"m going to be reading on the Kindle memory, eject the card, and keep it in the pocket. Now, whereever I go I still have my entire library, but my Kindle is like lightning again. If I'm stranded somewhere, or don't feel like reading whats loaded, I just pop the card back in. Voila! Win-win.

I use the SD card because I have several large PDFs--I keep RPG gaming books on the card, and they'd use up too much of the internal space. I've been considering switching everything else to the internal memory. I do keep losing bookmarks (not that I use them enough to care). I don't normally use Calibre or the Library; I just load books onto the Reader using Windows Explorer. |

I also thought that having the memory cards would be important. But I have over 260 books on the internal memory & that's way more than enough at the rate at which I read'em. I have some of my cookbook collection on one of my cards, but at this time, don't use the cookbooks very often. I've been acquiring lots of books (fiction, classics)for future use. I've been converting them with Calibre, and when I've got a 'stack', I burn them onto CD. Building my library for when we retire & sail into the sunset. No, the external cards are quite over rated as a necessity, but for those who want to have everything on their device, it's a nice option.

I have tried the SD card and it drains battery quickly, so I do not use it anymore. Actually there is little point in using a card, you can have about 200 books on the Reader in internal memory. And I like the preformatting of the Connect software, so I do not have to wait with a new book or when changing font sizt. The only reasons for memory card: hacks / upgrades / audio books / mp3 |

Well I put all my books/documents on SD card only. I can't say for speed as I did not try the internal memory, though the PRS 600 is pretty fast IMHO even for PDF files. It is faster than the 505 anyway An advantage of the SD card is that it is usable from any computer and I don't have to carry the cable. I can add new books from home with the cable or from work using by putting the SD in the notebook. Concerning battery drain I cannot say, not tested enough. |

I keep all my books on the SD card, just for convinience. Is easier to just pop the SD from the reader, pop it into my PC, drag books over into the correct folders, according to my setup, and pop the SD back into my BeBook

Sometimes I just want to browse what I have available, page by page. Why limit myself to 200 books or any amount? Looking at what I have on my card is like looking at a paper library wall. The selection of what to read is limited to what I have on the card, not what the device can hold.
