I'm halfway to 50K!! Starting to think I might actually finish.

I was definitely helped by a write-in today.

There's a 5-hour statewide write-in that I'm going to next Saturday. If I can keep up my pace until then (which seems unlikely), maybe I will finish there.

25,565 as of this PM. I'll probably slow down a bit now that I'm back from vacation. The Mafia just kidnapped the expedition and they are flying to Cancun to check the Mayan ruins there.

Right now, they have just crashed in the Belgian Congo and Doc has had to cut out the splinter that destroyed Stig's voicebox. They managed to cross the Atlantic in a tri-motor that was badly damaged in a battle with two destroyers of the LuftKriegsMarine. (Zeppelins with half a dozen six-inch guns - okay, I exaggerate, each destroyer only has five 5.9 inch guns.)

Now if only I can get this mood write (pun intended)
I'm being a stickler on my words here and it's not going too well. I tried to turn them off and that didn't work either! It's just - I want to get this scene the way it should be. Everything else is flowing well. Maybe I need to go back and reimagine this place.
I think I'm trying to make it too normal in a world that just won't allow it.

I've had that problem all my life. This time aroound, I'm just writing. When I write something that I don't like, I'll just say to myself, "I'll clean that up in re-write. For once this is working for me.

My advice, either make notes on that scene and skip forward, or figure out one thing that's decidedly abnormal amid the otherwise normal setting and go from there.

Maybe men wear skirts or nobody wears pants. Maybe they are a cult of Elvis Worshippers - or followers of John Lennon who started an entire religion on his like that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus.

Well...I took everyone's advice. And I realized that my good guy isn't really good and my bad guy isn't really bad.
Now I need to justify the hero saving the bad guy's life.

I wish I had checked what this thread was about earlier... I didn't even read the thread, because I thought it was about some new reader coming out... lol. I only started writing something 2 days ago... and I'd probably never get up to the 50k words anyway...

Ugh. 1800 words. Finally done with this chapter. I think it's pure crap and will probably go straight to the cutting room floor in rewrites. But for now, it's done =)

Count now stands at close to 16k and I'm done for the night.

Just checked my Scrivener statistics...38 pages, paperback. 70 printed. Does that seem odd or is it just me?

The only other long writing I've done was research papers way back in college and grad school, and I would finish a page every two hours or so (that, after having already completed all of the research). I was pretty convinced that 50K in a month was an impossibility for me. I have had to just completely stop caring about the inner editor. Every time I hit something that would have stalled me in the past (naming a new character, rethinking a plot arc), I just keep writing. And I have found that my writing is actually improving quite a bit because of it. At least I think so; I haven't reread most of it yet. I just keep telling myself that there's nothing that can't be fixed in edits later. If I had a scene I couldn't get right, I would just skip past it and rethink it later. I know that's hard to do sometimes though!

My motto this month is a paraphrase of Dory in Finding Nemo: "Just keep writing, just keep writing..."

I think everyone's doing great, though! Some genres just write themselves more quickly than others.

I know that some genres are faster than others. This is my first real try at pulp adventure and it's going much more quickly than I normally write. But man, my alt-30's are diverging rapidly from ours.

I'm going for a pulpy adventure story too. I'm finding that the fun scenes are going a lot better than expected. But when I have to write expositionary backstory or paint a picture it takes a little longer than expected. Moe, I PM'd you the basic feel of the story. Im a huge fan of the color choices, but I don't think sexy girl with gun is "right" yet =)
