I just finished my first public library ebook. Black Hills by Nora Roberts. Glad I didn't buy it; the main characters were both kind of annoying, by the end. My library went a long time without adding new ebooks so I worried they were giving them up, but it turns out they were just changing formats and ditching the PDF. They have a great selection of several hundred and growing epub now, including recent releases like this one and the Dan Brown. I will be definitely wishlisting non-100% rebate items at Fictionwise now and waiting to see if the library gets it.

Love Leslie Meier. Her first one is one of my favorites. I must admit though, I've not ever gotten past the third book in the series. Have to start those again...

"The men are trained in the higher branches of the art of war; in strategy and the maneuvering of large bodies of troops. They make the laws as they are needed; a new law for each emergency. They are unfettered by precedent in the administration of justice. Customs have been handed down by ages of repetition, but the punishment for ignoring a custom is a matter for individual treatment by a jury of the culprit's peers, and I may say that justice seldom misses fire, but seems rather to rule in inverse ratio to the ascendency of law. In one respect at least the Martians are a happy people; they have no lawyers."

I almost dropped my reader rolling on the floor laughing!
I keep meaning to read these - they sound fantastic.

I'm on the second book of Susan Cooper's fantasy quintet The Dark is Rising. I'm very impressed so far. Cooper is very good at evoking landscape in particular the English midwinter. The novel is infused with myth, legend and tradition. I'm interested to see how she builds this up over the remaining three novels.

I Love being able to check out library books! I lucked out and was able to check out Homer and Langley as well as The Lost Symbol and am on the waiting list for several others.

Just wanted to say that Amazon dropped the price back down to $12.40 or so and it is on the NY Times bestseller list (per the email I got from Amazon). Didn't want to miss it this time so bought it at that price. So this is notice to everyone that since I bought it, it is almost certain to drop to $9.99.

I'm reading "The Bookman's Wake" by John Dunning. Took it out in hardcover from the library. Between the library and all of the booksales I've been to recently, I've got a zillion pbooks to read.

"Starfish" by Peter Watts. This book took me by surprise, because it's one of the Tor freebies I downloaded some time ago, so my expectations were not very high. Not only is the story good (several of the other Tor books I read also had good stories), but the writing is also good. It even made me miss my bedtime last night, which doesn't happen very often

And still continuing on and off with Proust. I'm almost at the end of "A l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleur" (I think the English title is Within a Budding Grove).

Glad you decided to get it when the price dropped again.

I believe that's the price I paid for it, as well. (And it probably will drop more, as you say!)

Let us all know what you think about it, please.

ADDED: We're talking about John Irving's new novel.

Four books by Peter Watts are in the MR library: Starfish, Maelstrom, and Behemoth in LRF, IMP, and PRC. Blindsight seems to be in LRF only. His books are also on feedbooks in other formats for free.... (and I was freaked by the realistic feel of the first story)

Finished _The Penal Colony_ by Richard Herley... quite good. I give it 4 of 5 stars. Very well written and good story.

Started reading _The Trial_ by Kafka for the MRBC. Just finished chapter 1.

Treebooks....I like that! Just finished Diana Gabaldon's Lord John and the Private Matter and was so disappointed. That book just doesn't rank with the Outlander series (of which I've read the first 3). I actually looked forward to finishing it. Now I'm well into The Time Traveler's Wife and enjoying it.

I would like to take advantage of the 100% rebate items at Fictionwise also but they don't seem to have so many in Multi-format for my Sony 505.
