Hey, Slite! Did you accidentally bring back some TDD from your last trip to Adrian's?

For some reason, Friday seems to have disappear off (again) and been replaced with Monday. I could really do without Thursday being followed by Monday, and I'm dreading what Saturday is planning as a result of its new neighbour.....

wow, this is really not a good week for you, is it lazyscot ? i think you should get to have three fridays next week, as compensation. possibly 5 fridays in fact. or an entire week of saturdays.

and what is it with this Ft Hood thing! Man! I can hardly believe this could happen in the service at an army base and by a medical/psychological doctor!

That plus the fact that a friend of my son's just died of swine flu while stationed at a local base really makes me wonder about the state of the military....

Or failing that, take some ZCDs. There aren't many bugs that can survive in a body that is undergoing "the ZCD transformation".

Am, I hope you feel better soon. I wish I had a great home remedy but I just drink A LOT of water.

Shannon has been sick with the flu since a week ago Thursday and still sounds like she's trying to cough up a lung. She went to the doctor's last Friday and he told her that she had the flu, but probably NOT the Swine variety. He said the only way to know for sure was to take the test, but she would have to go to our local hospital to have it done and then her health insurance probably wouldn't pay for it (the cost would be close to $800 US). He did give her a prescription for something called tameflu (sp?) which you are supposed to take in the first 48 hours of the flu, but she didn't get it filled right away so that it was too late to be effective. So far, knock on wood (No, not that Wood), no one else in the family has gotten sick yet. Of course, I disinfected every surface in the house and quarantined Shannon for the first few days.

Keep up the antibacterial and disinfection etc. etc. Hope you all stay healthy.

Tell you what -- when you're in that situation, you find out who your friends are really quick. I was at the mercy of my fellow medics; I couldn't begin to get myself out of that thing!

I wouldn't worry too much about the Fort Hood fiasco. As horrible as it was, it appears to be an isolated act committed by a lone perpetrator.

I don't know how that "local base" you mentioned is dealing with swine flu, so I can't really say anything directly. What I do know is that a large number of people, under the guidance of such towering figures of scientific literacy as Rush Limbaugh on the right and Jim Kerry on the left, have chosen to forgo the swine flu shot. Being a member of the Armed Services, and thus considered to be government property, I don't know if your son's friend had the option to forego the shot. (I would love to get the shot, but it's not available for folks like me yet. The young and the pregnant are being given first dibs.)

In my opinion, the real problem with our military is that they are overstretched, overburdened, and underfunded. It's not a good situation.

Tom, I don't know if he had the opportunity either, but it's a tragedy as he was only 25.

If the issue is Overstretched, overburdened, and underfunded then something should be done about it instead of it just being considered the status quo and letting things like this happen. I think these incidents are "indicators" like canaries in coal mines.
