), and an African Hall that had me researching Yoruba religious offshoots when I got back. I was aware of Voodoo and Santeria, but was not aware of Candomble, a Brazilian variant.

Add in some rooftop gardens and the Tishman Hall of African Art, and it was a delightful day.

Just finished watching a documentary on the Berlin Wall. I remember watching the events on TV 20 years ago, though I was only vaguely aware of what was going on, I didn't know the details. But I remember seeing all those people crossing the border and being moved. I still am

I remember being impressed that it just happened, so fast .... I hadn't heard anything political about it "going down" in advance (not that I *really* listen to politics, but...). It seemed very much that the People had just decided, and it was going to come down!

I still have a piece of the wall, when they were selling them as souveniers (yes, all the way over here in Chicago outskirts).

Mmm, well from what I remember it wasn't much of a surprise, so I must have followed some of the news at the time I guess. I'm not sure I would notice if it happened today

I also remember the buses from Eastern Europe visiting Paris in the years afterward. You could recognize them because they were old and run-down and had writing in strange alphabet on the side

i remember that day too ; i was babysitting and i saw it on the television news. i remember having the strange vertiginious sensation that history was being made as i watched.

I had been on an official military tour of East Berlin (highlighting battles etc) the year before. I remember thinking "WOW! I just barely made it to see that bit of history that will never exist again!"

sorry, cannot do, we have a mail strike causing backlogs, I'm afraid you wouldn't get the cheque until it was too late....other than that it would seem my bank is being sold off to the highest bidder (excepting us poor public who bailed them out) - so I may not have any money to give you anyway ...... how's about a big bar of virtual chocolate ?
