Thanks for that link I joined yesterday and it works great. I wondered if it would work when I had to input my address but I live in Cambridgeshire and this was one of the counties it was accepting addresses from. Not a massive range of fiction but a good little selection and I guess it will keep on growing

For anyone in the UK that hasn't found this admittedly limited move, you can get the occasional free book that the Sony site gives away by changng your location to the USA under preferences in the Sony ereader software. No problems downloading them once you've done that since you do not need to give credit card details. I did sign up with a gmail account rather than an obviously UK based one but I don't know if that was strictly necessary.

what a brilliant link - I live in Wales and just joined. It doesn't seem to mind where you live in the UK.

It seems to let you register, but then, in order to check out books you need to physically go into the library to get a library card as the number from that is what you need to be able to download e-books.

Or did I miss something?

when you registered you should have rec'd an email quoting a registration number. I used that & then was able to d/load a book for 3 weeks (up to 3 at a time I think).

Actually you just have to fake an US address, I use my Norwegian address then add a us number that corresponds to a state, and voila! You can use your ordinary visa card to buy books at the sony store. I just bought my third

Like Euroboy is pointing out, I also use my norwegian Visa with the US Sony ebook store. Just find a valid zipcode in any of the States (i.e. google any company and look for its contact address). For the rest of the address, use your own. Country must be USA though.

As for the original question about finding ebooks we have a similar problem here in Norway with almost no ebook stores. I have found great help using this site: http://sonyreader.no/
[I may have seen it referenced in another thread...]

Even though it is written in Norwegian you will easily find your way down to all the hyperlinks to different ebook-sources in many countries.

Most visa cards have a country associated with them and will *not* allow you to just say 'US' and enter a random address* - it's part of the security of the card. Virtual cards don't have this restriction, and, it seems, Norwegian ones.

* It was the first thing I tried, just in case Sony didn't check.

I did in fact try with MasterCard first and was rejected. So instead of a creditcard I had to use my Visa, which is my debetcard. And it works perfectly and I have done several purchases from the Sony store.
And the best thing - no fees, just straight currency conversion from US Dollars to Norwegian kroner. (yes, I have scrutinised my account to check for foreign currency fees).
