A holiday because 1st of November is usually a holiday, but this year it was a Sunday, so local administrations were allowed to "move" it to the following Monday (today). Not everywhere in Spain (where I am) is a holiday, but it is in my region. You'll probably come here faster if I tell you that Christmas holidays (for schools, at least) go from ~21st December to ~8 January Of course, lots of people are unemployed and have much longer holidays.

The 1st November is All Souls day, (El Día de los Muertos ) and is widely celebrated in Catholic cultures.

And school have holidays from the 15th of june to the 15th of september....

Wow, a free day because a holiday was on a sunday, here it's just "bad luck for you, come to work." At least I have a job, that counts for something.

And actually I will be in Spain for a few days half november. To practice my first spanish lessons and see the Sagrada familia. Oh no, don't let the firmware be released then....

In the Netherlands (the south) it's a holiday, but never a day off work.

As I said, I will make firmware update day my holiday, it will be very soon.

Well, there is a fixed number of "days off". If a given holiday is not a "day off" because it's Sunday, you get another instead. Depending on the local administration, it can be the following Monday, or another important date that would normally not be a holiday, or a Friday if another holiday is Thursday...

Well...when 'Koninginnedag' falls on a sunday you will get the monday off. And of course most of all other holidays are fixed in the week. 'Tweede Paasdag, Tweede Pinksterdag and Hemelvaartsdag.
The only exeptions are Christmas, but that is two days and almost never falls completely in the weekend and Jan 1st

Statistically, Christmas Day & Boxing Day fall on a Sat/Sun 1 year in 7. I'm not sure I'd call that "almost never" .
