Ha! They got what the wanted, a bunch of "potential interested" email addresses/contacts and a lot of "friends" and publicity. It was a poorly thought out scheme but got them what they wanted.

All you had to do was sign up for facebook. You did not have to become an Astak Friend or bring in extra "friends".

I want to get to the bottom of this as I do things totally fairly and always "above board" and I want to be sure our illustrious marketing people do the same. If you can please send me a private message with the exact wording of the notification... I will trace this out.

Yes, Marketing was trying to gain Astak Friends out of the sweepstakes/Pumpkin Contest, but they tell me neither you or any of your friends needed to become a friend or enter additional friends. I am anxious to straighten this out!!

You know me as always fair. This was not a scheme... it was a sweepstakes to give away 1-5 Pocket PROs based on number of entrys. Yes, Marketing was hoping to add facebook friends out of it... but it was not a requirement from their explanation to me.

Robert, I think it all depends on exactly where you draw the line on scheming and dishonesty. Certainly there was not full disclosure here when this was announced. So to my mind it was not fully honest. The requirements were way less than clear either here or on facebook until you had already entered your email address --- THEN IT TELLS you you have to do something else. That is near a scheme to me. I believed that all I needed to do was enter my email address and I'd be in the contest. I did that and you (or facebook) captured my email address and then turned right around and immediately slapped me in the face and said "Oh sorry you aren't in the contest because you aren't a facebook member, but thanks for your email address - neener, neener!"

It was deceptive and scheming to my way of thinking and yes even dishonest because it was not fully explained. I would urge you to take care in any such undertakings in the future because it doesn't take much to ruin a reputation with escapades like this. I like your product, but I absolutely despise this so-called contest and the way it was used to manipulate us.

Since the outcry was about even having to get a Facebook account, I assumed that "NO!! You do not have to sign up" meant that a Facebook account was not necessary.

It was only a competition though. I'm not happy with the changing rules etc and the way it played out - I did take, like you, it at face value with good faith and intentions, but their first competition (as I understand) so bit of a learning curve on both parties. I am still keen to hear Robert's findings in to what went wrong (relevant in my view for future competitions).

I suggest don't write the device off your list. It is a great device, and I feel quite happy dealing with Astak again. I am still recommending the PP to people, but am steering clear of recommending people enter any competitions until we know what went wrong.

This is only from what I have interpretted, reading roberts posts.

Some Marketing girls came up with a contest for a free PEZ using Facebook and told Robert about it. Robert was not involved in any aspect of the contest, from what I can gather. He was basically running as message-boy between MR and Astak Marketing. So it's not like anything went wrong. It just took too long for the whole truth of the competition to come out because A tells B, B tells C, C questions B, B questions A. A answers B, who tells C, etc..

Any miniscule misunderstanding or misinterpretation between Us and Robert, or Robert and Marketing can be taken wrong. Cut the man some slack, He is only trying to help. I mean, come on. It's a Facebook Contest, and you guys are complaining that you have to have a Facebook account? That it is an unfair contest because you aren't eligible because you do not want to join Facebook?

I say just wait for a contest in which you are willing to participate in and quit whining and bellyaching or boycotting Astak for trying to increase their knowledge-base through social networking.

No Griff. I have every right to complain and whine just as you have every to praise Astak every chance you get. To each his own.

Their product and price is reasonably good, but not without some significant issues. I wish them well and definitely hope they succeed. The more competition the better for all of us consumers, but as always I will point out anything I consider a flaw or issue as well as point out the good things. I really do try to be an objective consumer.
