Interesting. I've not seen it change at all on the two that I've experienced. I do think if you are careful and slowly and firmly push the buttons it is more likely to work. ![]() |

I tried chm.. Tried about 3.. My friend passed it to me to try because he wanted to know if it works. But perhaps the files are too big (i can't remember but it is a few mb or even bigger), so it takes ages to load. And after it load it is not readable... and it hangs when I tried to change the page.. So I had to forcibly restart the whole reader.

To be precise, the EZreader 6" can use alternate system software from OpenInkPot, an open source ebook reader firmware. You may (or may not) prefer it to the vendor provided software. Most ereader don't have that choice...

Mobi is an exclusive format
Quote:
I hope you will go ahead and buy the Pocket PRO. I work for Astak... so realize I may be biased. What I would say is that the Pocket PRO comes with Adobe Digital Editions on it. Mobi makes its own rules and demands that any manufacturer can only have Mobi DRM on their device and no other DRM. So, yes, when people say the Pocket PRO reads Mobi... they always mean it reads Mobi non-DRM. That is Mobi's choice. What I WILL point out is that Astak is the only manufacturer that has threads on here and we DO support our end users a lot. I think this speaks volumes on why you should buy a Pocket PRO... because it is actively supported. Also, if we do have a problem, we take care of it promptly and I admit it and we take responsibility. I am on here often checking the threads and offering answers. You will not find that with any other brand of eBook Reader. We have 20 formats that can be read on the Pocket PRO and it supports 20 langauges. You can buy eBooks freely from more than 300 different websites (meaning there is competition for your dollars)... you are not locked in. Astak is not big and we are not that well known... but our devices are very good and generally offer more value. WHY? For one example, we include a crush-resistant leather case with magnetic clasp and earbuds. That is in the price. Secondly, we ask MobileRead Forum members for their opinions. Are you aware that the 6 colors of the Pocket PRO were recommended by Forum Members? I think that shows the lengths we go to to interact with our potential and present end users. |

I preordered my 5" EZ Pro and have had no problems and love it! I converted most of my pdf files to mobi and they work without any problem. Of the few new epub books I bought the only problem I seem to have is with the damn drm in Adobe Digital Reader and can't transfer one of the books to the Astak. Great device and I highly recommend it over the Kindle 2 or the Sony 300.

Why are you converting from Mobi to pdf? Just curious as I am new to the ebook formats. I like mobi files because I can also put them on my blackberry.

He's probably making PDF's formatted to screen size. You can get a lot more custom on your layout with PDF if you want to mess with kerning and stuff.

If I ever want to learn the other publishing software, like the new Sigil or Bookdesigner, I could see if I have this kind of control in them. But converting my pdf's through Calibre, I couldn't figure out (my fault) how to keep the text size large, so I gave up. I'm perfectly happy having this kind of control over my files. Yes, it's a lot of work, but I'm the type to re-read the books I like hundreds of times. And I have difficulty reading new books because they don't keep my interest. That is just me. Dear Robert,
Thanks for the quick support for this great device. I have question/reccomendation though. The default zoom level for .rtf, .doc, html and .txt file types are only three insufficient levels. However many ebook files are already in these formats before going to pdf or epub files. So why doesn't our device have a 5 level zoom like pdf files already for these file types and ease our reading routine? I just don't want to spend my time converting files to pdf etc. I don't think it's a very hard and time consuming job for the programmers. Regars. |

.txt files look great on my pp (I've been putting the knitting/crochet patterns I'm working on in those formats.) .epubs look really good, the only odd thing I noticed was on an Adobe Digital Edition epub the chapter breaks took noticeably longer to load. After the first one I would just think "oh, a new chapter". The annoying one is a Digital Edition .pdf I bought from Books On Board. It doesn't want to zoom properly, so the print is slightly too small, or else the second "page" on my reader is about two lines long.
Well, and Calibre doesn't seem to recognize my reader at all, but I think I need to fiddle with it some more. |
