Finish reading my Gen3books - then orientation

As e-books are getting more and more attention and Europe's market is not developing strong players like B&N (Nook, love that device) or Amazon (Kindle) the few new initiatives in Europe are all focussing on ePub.
So I cant buy any books / subscribe to newspapers unless my device gets a (minor) software update.

I think it's rediculous to be forced to spend another E 250 just to get new software, as I have never spent that much money for software-updates
On the other hand - lots of new developments on the eReader-devices lately so it's probably better should I be a little patience and wait for the hands-on-experiences on these new devices the next 6 months

So I'll just finish the 70 books I already have on my CyBook Gen 3 untill that urge to get recent books on my eReader becomes too great. Till then the Gen3 IS working fine.

A month ago I bought the latest book by Joe Abercrombie (only available in ePub). It took me less than 5 minutes to strip it from its DRM and convert it to mobi.
I've read it the last month with great pleasure on my 'old' Gen3 (WITH dictionary support). Formatting was very good ePub -> mobi conversion works great in Calibre.

You really don't have to spend E 250 in order to read ePub books.

Waste you money if you will. I don't care, it's your money after all.

Software is always minor compared to hardware - i can not change the e-ink screen nor the layout/buttons - yet I can change the software
Reading software is just a stream of bits and bytes that people at OpenInkPot develop for free
Although I wouldn't mind spending $40 to get THE update that will update my outdated software (without ePub support) like I did last wednesday with the upgrade from Vista to Windows7.

I wasn't aware of the development on the ePub format by Calibre.
Still I think I should be able to buy an e-book and get it on my CyBook without installing additional software to strip & convert.

/me is going to download the most recent version of Calibe - hoping it has some file-management nowadays

Today I joined Hanselda - I sold my Gen3 after nearly 8 months of using&waiting for folder support, "current reading", time and battery indicator, etc.

My Gen3 was working.. well, if you don't count freeze after 100 pages, it worked well

I wish I could have a software much like Pocketbook - with only difference it to be DRM-enabled. Now the market is getting broader - I will wait a bit (6 months?) for new devices to arrive, and will give it another try. The one I'm sure - it will not be Bookeen, as I think they've lost the battle in the field of software, and that Opus will not change their situation.

Was nice to be with you. Goodbye, and see you in a year!

Bookeen is not being very smart in their strategies concerning the firmware. They promiss us the world since april 2009 and never deliver and never communicate a status update or anything. With all the competition in ereaders lately I don't think they will last for very long if they keep doing this and Opus will probably be their last reader then.

Or are they working on a new device (which I will not buy) an therefore not delivering???
I bought my Cybook Gen3 a couple of weeks ago and it comes with epub support but mobipocket support removed:

I found out about weltbild.de a few weeks after I bought mine. At the time I think most knowledgeable Cybook owners thought weltbild was selling the beta epub firmware that was handed out at the Paris show in July.

Good move, in any case. You probably also have folders implemented, so your DRM (Adobe ADE) and 'file organising' will be easier than for us stupid earlier customers. Don't expect improvements, though, whatever Bookeen announces. Cybook Gen3 is 'as is'.

Yes, I can switch between "Folder" and "Normal" View.

The info window of the Cybook says:
Version 1.9 Build 924
Adobe Reader Mobile Version 9.0 Build 26696

Boot time is around 18 seconds with about 50+ books installed on internal and external device (SD 2GB)

It's not. The firmware we have is the mobi one.

Do you have any problems yet? I ask because the only other Bookeen firmware with Adobe DRM seems to be on the Opus, and users have mentioned bugs.

Have you had any problem with files on the SD card? Have there been many freezes that require the reset button?

Thanks,
Richard

I had 2 freezes during 4 weeks while using the device about 1-2 hours a day.
What problems are there with files on the SD card?

soft reset don't work with SD.
And my case, switching back to internal memory significantly reduced the crash. (Not sure if the problem comes from my cybook, or the sd.)
