Agree with what others have said about no quotation marks except around your name. And be sure that your name is correct. I have books that have all been bought on the same credit card. Some books require my middle initial, and some don't. Not sure why, unless when I updated CC info at some point in time I left out middle initial.

Do y'know, I've made the simple error of just plain not reading

I was typing my credit card number in 'your name' and and my name in 'credit card number'. Doh.

This has worked on all of the PDB books I bought in fictionwise to use on my ipod touch, which I'm now converting to use on my E-Reader PRS 600. I'm pleased I can go ahead and read these in a more comfortable way now!

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere but using ereader2html and then Mobipocket Creator or Calibre to convert the html file into mobi format... I get paragraph breaks in strange places... like the middle of a sentence in the center of the screen. These breaks correspond to <br> tags in the html file. The book is a recent purchase of a recent release. Obviously I would like the paragraph breaks to occur at the end of paragraphs... Any help or pointing me to where I could get help would be greatly appreciated!

ereader2html, for some unknown reason, uses <br><br> instead of </p><p> to delimit paragraphs. This is a very unusual form. Try a global search and replace.

I've not had any problems with ereader2html, other than poor typing quality. It's been a long time since I used command line interfaces. I should probably write a script.

Does your reader support HTML directly? Once I discovered that my readers, an EZ Reader with Open InkPot firmware and a jetBook with the latest firmware, displayed the HTML output from ereader2html, I haven't bothered to convert books further. I just use the HTML.

The problem with this solution is several. First, the <BR> tags occur in the middle of a sentence... so I wouldn't want to replae it with either a <p> or </p> tag. And in a global replace how would you specify the opening and closing tag?

Thanks for the input, bu this doesn't seem like a good option to me.

Yes, I have the Cybook Gen 3 which supports html directly... but again, the <br> tags are occasionally placed within a sentence... which causes it to wrap in weird places when it is reflowing on the Cybook.

I actually went ahead and purchased the book again at a steep discount in epub format and "worked" with it so it looks fine on the Cybook. Although I've resolved the issue with this title... I'd like to have this "fixed" so that I can concievably purchase ereader titles to work on my cybook...

I'm thankful for the script, too! I bought an eBook from Fictionwise on my iPhone once and needed to convert that to ePub. The generated HTML code is so awful it hurts my eyes to look at, but at least IT WORKS!

But now I'm trying to convert the HTML file to ePub with Calibre. Stanza can't open it at all as it believes the ePub file wouldn't exist (wtf?), but more problematically, Adobe Digital Editions displays question marks instead of quotation marks. The quotation marks in the HTML code are standard UTF-8. What do I need to do to change that? Should I replace them with HTML codes instead?

Hi - I've had similar problems with quote marks, failed conversions etc, but after a few days messing about I think I've found a solution. I just posted it in another part of the forums, and it's here: hope people find it useful.

If you have any programming capability at all, you may want to try something like this. The goal is to convert those pesky curly-quotes and other troublesome characters to a form that will be handled correctly on any host. So add a method like this to the python script:

Code:
	def fixText(self, text):
		r = ''
		for c in text:
			#map characters >=128 to their \aXXX code equivalents
			if ord(c)>=128:
				fix = r'\a' + str(ord(c))
				r += fix
			else:
				r += c
		return r
Now invoke that method on the strings that hold pml text sometime before they are written out. That is, you'll find a suitable pair of lines that look something like:
Code:
      r += someBigFunctionCall(OrOther)
return r
and you'll change it to be something like:
Code:
      r += someBigFunctionCall(OrOther)
return self.fixText(r)
...being careful to preserve the indentation in the original file. You only need to do this in one place, but it should be harmless (although slower) if you wind up repeating the conversion by mistake.

The advantage of this change is that the \aXXX codes in the pml file express the curly-quote-like characters in a form that does not depend on your system or your local character encoding. And that, in turn, means that you don't have to sweat the character-set issues.

Xenophon

P.S. Coding example is very carefully worded to stay clear of any DMCA issues! Sorry if it is too obscure for non-programmers. Even there, however, you may find success if you look in the python file with a text editor -- you want a method or methods that talk about getting text...

There is a new version of this out that now decodes footnotes.

Hi, I saw this thread about ereader2html and had to register just to put in my two cents - for Windows, there is a nice freebie called HtmlAsText that will convert html to text very nicely, with a little trial and error you can have the result formatted for ebooks, I use it all the time.

Where would I find a reliable copy of ereader2html, I don't want to just search and download the first virus I see? Would be nice if there was a gui for it too! thanks for reading.

If you look around you'll find ereader2html and mobidedrm as python scripts available at some sites - usually zipped up. Be forewarned that while they *work* just fine, some places consider using them to be a criminal act - even if you're using them on ebooks you've purchased for your own enjoyment.

Maybe a silly question, but:-

- What if you pay for the ereader book with Paypal (from bank account) or with micropay dolars? What would you then use for the 8 digits from the cc number?

When you actually download the book it will use the name and CC number you have on file - you must have used a credit card at least once I think before it works?
