Yes Allenlux, that is the problem in Australia too, except that Amazon dont even supply a wall charger, just the cable. And many Australian wall chargers wont work - they look like they are but the green light never comes on; and the kindle seizes up.

Ea, I need a wall charger that works for Kindle as I dont travel with the laptop, and there was no Amazon wall charger provided.

Pushka, one suggestion would be to try one of the chargers for the more recent Blackberry phones - Storm or Tour. I don't own one of these, but from what I have read it seems thay may use the latest USB charging standards and come with micro-usb cables. See this thread on a Blackberry support forum

The two I've tried are the one I got with my CyBook Gen3, and a no-name Chinese one I bought from Expansys. In both case, I'm using the Kindle USB cable with them.

As far as I understand, that's the wall charger - I've used it with an adaptor and it worked fine.

Edit: It must be a mistake from Amazon's side? I unerstood all International Kindle's came with a wall charger - the problem was that it was American type.

No, it's not a mistake - the country-specific information for Australia on Amazon.com indicates clearly that the charger is not supplied to Australia.

Maybe something to do with product certification rules.

I'm sorry. That is really too bad, especially since it appears that not all standard chargers work.

Someone posted the output specs for the charger as 4.9V 0.85A. Does seem kind of weird that a generic AC-USB charger doesn't work, as they have a 5V output like a standard USB port on a computer which will charge the Kindle.

Sorry Non-US residents, they don't ship that product internationally.

Won't the standard Amazon charger work with an adapter. I always carry an adapter when I travel internationally with devices that need frequent recharging. The adapter has no electrical properties; it just adapts U.S. prongs to whatever is used locally.

It worked for me. The Amazon charger is supposed to work with 100-240 V

Yes, but do you charge it via the USB connector on the the 505 or the power connector?

It's well known that if you use an adapter cable and charge via the standard power connector (the round one, not the USB) that it works fine.

Yes, the Amazon charger works fine with a plug adaptor. The issue is that, for customers in Australia, Amazon are not supplying their charger.

Right, but Jon was talking about his Sony 505 unless I'm mistaken. My Kindle2 is the same -- only a micro USB connector.
