Calibre and Sony's eLibrary software are incompatible: eLibrary won't work after you've used Calibre. See this FAQ from the calibre website.

The whole point of getting a Sony prs-600 for me was the freedom from DRM and corporate stores. Calibre just expands that freedom.

Only if you use it to transfer books to the Sony. I just use Calibre as an eBook librarian, and for doing format conversions, and that usage is perfectly "compatible" with the Sony eBook Library software.

They're fine to use as long as you only use one or the other each time the Reader is connected.

You're reading too much into that FAQ answer, as it's explaining how to recover if you've messed up by trying to use both at the same time/during the same session. If you remember to only use one or the other but not both each time it's connected, there's no problem.

The underlying reason is that the Reader uses a single file to keep track of 'meta' information, such as collections, and this is written to by both Calibre & the Sony software when either updates something on the Reader. The file will be saved when the Reader is (safely) unmounted, so using one or the other is safe if there's a disconnection between them, but if you're not the type to remember this, then the simple answer is to stick to one or the other for the transfer and just export/import from/to the other via the PC's hard disk.

Help downloading Calibre for Windows

I've logged on to the Calibre home page several times today and can't seem to get the program to download for Windows.

Any suggestions?

It might have had something to do with our load balancer not properly redirecting the download at that time, or a connectivity issue. It seems to be working again; feel free to contact me directly should there be a problem again.

I've searched FAQs and skimmed this thread -- please forgive me if I've overlooked the answer to what seems a pretty basic question: Can I transfer books from my eBookLibrary and Digital Editions library to my Calibre library? I'd like to keep everything in Calibre if it's possible. Thanks. Neil

Thanks for the explanation. This is good to know. And I'm glad they're not *completely* incompatible. Although I have to say having worked with both for about a month now, Calibre is the superior tool.

The short answer: yes. I've done it. Someone more knowledgeable can jump in here, but my observation is that files that you download from the net using eBookLibrary are stored in a specific directory (on Windows: My Documents\My Books\eBook Library and "My Digital Editions"; on my Mac: ~/Documents/My Books/eBook Library/). But it only stores the location of ebooks you import into it from your hard disk. It apparently does not make a copy of those files. When you move, rename or delete those files, eBookLibrary complains it can't find them anymore. You simply add those files in Calibre, which does make a copy of the files.

I've not found here the usual "Requested features" thread so I'm posting my suggestion / request here (feel free to point me to the right place for next time though). I've been using Calibre a lot in past few days mainly to load my new PRS-505 with some books I've aquired in the past and so far my only quible with it is that you need to use the mouse to double click on Author / Title / Tags fields to amend them which is OK for a few books here and there but for a "bulk" renaming and adding of authors and tags it's a bit tedious as it's much faster to work with keyboard only.

Would you consider an option to add the Edit option for those fields to the Context menu (together with View / Save / Remove) or is there any option to assign this to a shortcut keys? Also it would be nice to be able to "edit" those fields (e.g. paste) in multiply selected books - very usefull mainly for adding Authors to series of books or Tags etc.

Thank you.
