Gizmodo has screen grabs from the new "Nook" site (it was up and then taken down until after the official release today I believe). Lots of info...

http://gizmodo.com/5386017/barnes--n...iased-but-fair

...though I didn't see any on the file formats permitted.

I think this is normal protocol for any of their items because they just assume it'll be ready to ship in 1-2 days. I remember a month ago I pre-ordered a book but it still gave me the same message that I could only make limited changes to the order.

Except it’s the name of an electronic reading device that hopes to put the Kindle in a stranglehold. Good times!

On a side note, I wonder what the deal is with the website. You guys & even gizmodo have been saying it was/is down or people couldn't find specs. It's been up here since Engadget posted their story a few hours ago.

I've been holding off on getting a new reader since my lady "borrowed" my 505 (I get the strange feeling she's never going to be finished with it...). This one looks pretty sweet. The things I'm wondering about though:
Does it support DRM'd books purchased elsewhere?
Does it support Audible?
What about sorting? Are there collections?
Do they provide a way to convert files to a compatible format (like a .doc, etc.)

I'm sort of happy about the Nov. 30 date as it will leave me no choice but to wait. I still have a sneaky feeling that Apple's tablet will be the game changer. I know if I go ahead and order a Nook, Apple's device will have color, "digital magazines" with audio & video, interactive books, etc. all purchased through iTunes & updated daily like a podcast.

If nothing comes from Apple, I think this would make a nice x-mas gift to myself.

Yea, looks like someone besides the ad people got a look at it and realized it looked very nice but was a bit...lacking in info.
That or else the flood of email asking support questions that should have been already up on the main pages helped them to update things. Would not be a surprise for the site to update several more times in the next day or two.

(Annnnd just had a quick flashback to, what, a couple years ago and all the critical razzing about the uselessness of a dedicated reader and the foretelling of imminent doom of another fad electronic piece.)

According to the NY Times blog the books are in epub & PDf and can be bought from other stores and transfered on the device as well as the instant downloading from the B&N store.

4:32 p.m. Barnes & Noble will be the e-bookstore for the new Que e-reader device from Plastic Logic, he says. “We support more e-devices than any other e-book retailer,” he says.

From the live blog link.

He's got the right idea on this, anyway...
