Mine is now in Germany, it crossed the border this morning and has passeed customs. That means it should arrive tomorrow. Now I just have to find a way of making sure somebody accepts the package because I probably won't be at home...

I see that mine arrived in the UK at 4:25am this morning. No signs of it having left the airport yet though. It should be here tomorrow, apparently.

Mine is still in USA, so Thursday looks more likely than Wednesday.

I'm not too worried about the device...I'm pretty worried about the "regional restrictions" thingy always blocking my access to the books I want. I've seen quite a few examples of that while doing preliminary searches of the Kindle store.
I should have refrained from ordering a Kindle since I knew about the problem and actually had sworn not to buy any Amazon device after they sent their lawyers here about the kindelpid script...but I just could not resist getting this new gadget anyway...I'm weak, I know...

EDIT: I just found another one of my favourite authors that is not available for the Kindle in Europe: Michael Scott, author of the "Alchemyst" series that I quite enjoyed reading so far. What is wrong with Amazon/The Publishers/The Authors???
I won't derail this topic, there is already one for geo-restrictions, but somehow this whole affair is weird...espcecially since the geo-restrictions seem to be fairly new and not valid for all online stores, just some.

EDIIT2: And another favourite (British) author of mine: Douglas Adams...the world is truly unfair!!!

I don't expect to buy a lot of books through Amazon. For one thing, the prices don't seem cheaper than anywhere else I can buy those geo-restricted books. It would be convenient though - but then I would probably still de-DRM any books I bought at Amazon, just in case.

I think it's simply because those stores are not enforcing the restrictions. Remember Fictionwise didn't use to enforce them either. I expect that it's possible that it could change form day to day, so I don't put off buying any books I'm interested in - if the price is good, of course

Mine appears to be stuck in Philadephia for some reason. Not that I'm checking UPS every hour or so...

Like Ea I suspect mine will arrive on Thursday at the earliest.

Mine just arrived in New York (with DHL). I guess it will leave tonight. It's happened before that somethng that arrived here in the early morning went out the same day. It's a small country after all. I'm keeping my fingers crossed

I stand corrected. Mine apparently is on a flight and should arrive in UK at 8pm tonight. Fingers crossed for a delivery tomorrow.

Occasionally the WWW scares the bejesus out of me. Case in point - with a bit of detective work, not only do I know what flight my kindle is on but also the altitude, it's current position, estimated time of arrival, route etc. Happily I don't know what captain and FO had for dinner.

No, the web browser is not disabled as such; it depends where you are located - eg it will work in Japan. This almost certainly means that Amazon have not yet reached the appropriate data roaming agreements in other countries. So yes, there is a workaround - go to Japan and use it there.

When the International Kindle was announced I almost bought it but balked.

However this morning I changed my mind and ordered it. Received a shipping notification this evening and it's expected here in Cork on Thursday.

I've already gone and selected a few sample chapters for download and the trial subs to papers look interesting - it would be great if more European papers signed up eg Ouest-France.
