enjoy. those are the best memories, and the best traditions to hand down (take it from one who knows). the instructions are a bit involved, yes, but you'll see when you start making them it's not really so hard. after all, i learned when i was a little child, and over 30 years later i still remember (i do practice, from time to time, but not every day ).

yep, i know the accordeon bit, that's near the beginning. now i'm also trying to figure out how to make a chain of connected stars. curse you, lazy scot ! if i'm up all night doing tests, i'll blame you ! and of course, you have to tell us, when you figure it out. (try it with paper strips. there's probably no point in trying to remember it without any props.)

Sorry, should have been more specific. Here in the states we don't have "boxing day"

I always pictured a national day for people who liked to watch boxing..........

My apologies for the misunderstanding. Boxing Day is the day after Christmas Day... December 26. Don't know why it's called Boxing Day... I have heard, but have forgotten. Damn that short term mem... what was the question again?

Without checking, I seem to recall it's something to do with either the poor or the servants being given boxes of food or other gifts on that day.

Zelda, thanks so much for the instructions. I will definitely sit down with the kids and make some for their Christmas tree. We've always had two trees. One fancy one in the living room covered in all green, red, and gold ornaments and one "Kid's" tree in the family room with all the ornaments the kids have either made or purchased from craft fairs. We used to make a big paper chain each year when my two older kids were younger. We would start watching one of the favorite holiday movies (I love "White Christmas" or "Holiday Inn") at Thanksgiving and each work on our own section of chain. At the end of the movie we would combine them all and save it for the Kid's tree. I had forgotten about that as we haven't done it since we moved to Virginia (getting old stinks ). I think making paper chains and folding paper stars would be a great family tradition to start again. Thanks!!

Thanks, Zelda, and thanks for the links on how to make the stars. What a fantastic family activity! This is the kind of thing holidays should be about.

Thank you, Zelda, both of these sites are great. I have a Tree Trimming family get-together the beginning of every December and this will something fun to do.
