Harry, thanks for your 2cents. You were reading my mind. Last night someone posted a brand new in box Sangria red 505 on ebay for $259. Needless to say, I hopped all over that deal! I was wondering about the extended warranty and looked on Sony's site but didn't see where to purchase it. I'm hoping when I register the product I'll be able to buy insurance.

Oh gosh! I can't leave it to him to find me a Sangria (or even blue) reader! I had to find that myself! I did use our joint account to finance it. I suppose he can just replenish the account.

On another note. I can't be too mad at him. When I knew the 600 was coming out over the summer, that's all I would talk about. One night he kindly mentioned that I was expressing addictive behavior with my readers and he was a little concerned. I replied that that may be, but if I'm going to be addicted to something, Readers weren't such a bad thing, was it? Then he said he was worried that after I got the new 600, in a few months I'd want anther reader and another reader. I assured him that I'm only addicted to Sony Readers and I'm not interested in the one coming out in Dec. So I should be good for at least a year. LOL....

Much to my surprise he then replied, "Well, I've been thinking about buying you something anyway, so when it's available just put it on my charge card." After all that!

I did tell him of all my readers I think I'd mind him using the 600 the least just because it's the easiest to replace. He'd like to use my 700 because of the built in light but they're just too hard to come by and that's pretty much my most used reader since I read mostly at night.

Yeah, I'm pretty much a Sony girl. I just haven't seen any other readers that I like. The only thing that almost lured me is wanting to use Amazon's bookstore, but the Kindle is just so unappealing on so many levels that I just couldn't do it.

Sony + Amazon Store = Heaven.

Seriously. While I love both my children, I find myself using the Kindle more just for ease of use. I hate handling it though. Stupid keyboard. I think I've used it twice for impulse buying at the airport. Some of the books I've splurged on for the Sony I've bought Amazon copies too. I'm too afraid to bring my 700 to work, so the Kindle comes with.

As for getting the AD/H warranty, I think you can only get it at the Sony store and the last warranty repair I requested from them they wanted a copy of the original receipt or they wouldn't even honor the warranty. Try digging that one up after a year

As far as I saw online through the sonystyle store, you only can buy the warranty if the reader is in your online cart. And I'm pretty sure someone here on MR warranty'd a 500 or a 505 and ended up with a new 300 instead.

Ive seen the 700 recently in the vending machine at LaGuardia airport in NYC.

Also, don't you have a lightwedge cover for the 505 yet? They're still closing them out at Target, etc.

I just saw the lightwedge today at my Target in Lake Worth. There were 3 left and they were around 40 each.

Wow... new 700's still out and about, huh? I probably would've scooped one up just to have a back up! LOL...

Yeah, I bought the light cover for the broken 505 and that seems to have survived his laptop bag. My beau actually tried to convince me that the light wedge dug into the screen. Well, that may be, but it probably saved the screen before it couldn't take the pressure and weighed into it. I think without the wedge I'd be able to see exactly where the pressure was that broke the screen.

Exclamation be careful when buying a Sony reader - they don't insure with ebay!

Be careful with buying a reader on e-bay!
You can get the extended warranty with accidental break insurance only if you buy from authorised sellers like: sony, best buy, target, but not (not not!!!) while buying at ebay and amazon!
I know that by heart because i bought mine at ebay and got it insured only with a lot of dirty lying and false testemony!

good luck

I'll have to "fourth" that about dumping the boyfriend. I would imagine it's considerably cheaper to buy a Reader than to maintain boyfriend [or girlfriend, for that matter], especially the ones that are not house-broken.

Human relationships are expensive and temporary. An ebook is forever.

I suggest you put the boyfriend in a Reader-less Dog House for a week and see how he reacts.

LMAO! I know. Can you believe it?! At least I had the privilege of spending time with a blue 505 for all of 5.5 months. Oh well.... it's time for a little sangria!!!

Well, just got my shiny new red 505 in the mail today and it is gorgeous!!! I think I'm going to love it just as much as blue 505, maybe even more! Although...as I was looking at the blue one, I wish it was still working. It's so pretty, yet so sad with it's broken screen. I'm just authorizing it w/ the Sony Store and loading books on it now. I was worried that red would be distracting but now I don't think so. I think it'll just be gorgeous and I'll lose myself in my book as always.

And they told me he was Reader trained. Darn!

I was just at Target and the 505 was $279. I was surprised by that; and no new units at all. Weird.
I treat my 505 better then most. You'd be surprised at how well I take care of it. My wife has her own reader. I use mine too much to be able to lend it to her. Besides, if she broke mine, I would not want to even think what would happen.

As for the local Target, they had the 505 for $237 not too long ago, but now are sold out.
