Wow, that is bullshit. People who ordered it should email Amazon and demand that they get the correct, full book.

Also, I'm sick of keeping track of the samples so I'm just going to delete the whole section. Nobody seems to use it anyways.

"72 Hours" is also a guns-blazing spy novel, as well as a romance. It being short, I read it in an evening recently -- and found it lots of fun!

Or, you could delete it out of your archive.

Amazon doesn't allow deletions from the archive other than thru contacting customer service and returning a book (generally triggering a refund, although that would not apply with this one).

On the Heels of Evil by D.E. Daum - $0.01 [Suspense]

Quote:
Does Kelly Rogers have a relationship with The Almighty? Perhaps. One could interpret the fact that he lives as corroboration of a Godly connection. On the other hand, his survival may be an aberration-an uncanny twist of fate, that has propelled him in the position to be the greatest single fighter of world terrorism. That is the question that author, D.E. Daum, makes his readers wonder, repeatedly, while reading this fast-paced action thriller.

Our protagonist, covert agent, Kelly Rogers, begins to believe it and why shouldn-t he? He was dead, practically cut in half by an assassin-s bomb, but awoke in the hospital as Saleem Rhamsy. Yes, through some inexplicable reason, he now occupies the body of Rhamsy-his double-crossing Arab interpreter.

Kelly, who is by all appearances Saleem Rhamsy, is now in the pre-eminent position to monitor the upcoming plans for terrorist events planned by the most active world wide terrorist organizations and as a bonus inherits Rhamsy-s former beauty queen wife, Mariam.

Working for a secret unit of the CIA, Kelly and his superior, the indomitable Jane DeJong and later his wife, go on to fight not only radical Muslim terrorists, but a troublesome group of Neo-Nazis, who have sponsored many of the terrorist activities, including a nuclear bomb planted in a major American city.
Sleepwalker: The Last Sandman by Brad Marlowe - $0.99 [Modern Fantasy]

Quote:
In SLEEPWALKER: THE LAST SANDMAN a dark force springs to life from the uncommon imaginations of two young brothers, casting a cold shadow over Nod, the mercurial land of dreams. When the malevolent entity abducts the Sandman, and then snatches its own creators from their cozy beds in an Iowa farmhouse, where the boys live with their loving aunt and uncle, Jake Golden (the boys’ cynical father) must resurrect the imaginative child within in order to cross the barrier that separates the real from the surreal. In Nod, a world literally made of our dreams, Jake must rescue his sons and save the Sandman before the sleep-deprived citizens of the world burn everything to the ground.

Aided by a trio of Dreamers (children with nothing except their dreams in our world, who have been adopted by the king), Jake encounters bizarre characters and wondrous locales as he discovers the transformative qualities of belief, the enduring power of love, and his own Destiny.

THE LAST SANDMAN is a Modern Fantasy with no wizards, faeries, dragons, or vampires. It is an exploration of the origin of dreams and the tale of a world-weary, broken-hearted father’s love for the sons he has neglected far too long. A thematic cousin to PETER PAN and ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND, this unconventional fantasy offers emotional complexity to mature readers while supplying a gripping adventure for both the young and the young at heart. Is this done by hooking up to your computer?
Or are you referring to Amazon's online "Media Library"?

I couldn't find any way to do it online, and I've never hooked my Kindle up to my computer.

Thanks!

Under your account on the Amazon website look for "Digital Content" under that heading is "Your Media Library". If you click on Your Collection you'll see stuff you've bought listed (this can be filtered to just Kindle stuff). When you click on the checkable box next to an item one of the options is move to trash. I'm assuming that's what BOb means although I've never tried it to see if it actually removes the book from your library under the Manage Your Kindle page.

This will take the items off of your "Manage Your Kindle" page, but it doesn't remove it from the archive list on the physical Kindle. At least it didn't on mine, even after selecting to sync off the menu.
Perhaps there's just a lag before it updates?

No, you are correct. It has no affect on your archives at all, just moves it to "trash" in the media library, where it will languish forever, in case you want to move it back. Since the archive is just a listing of purchases that are not loaded on the Kindle, it stays there unless removed by customer service. There was a person who kept trying to claim on the Amazon board that this somehow affected her Kindle listings also (along of all those sold in the world), but she wasn't ever looking in her archive, at all.

A bigger issue is that a high response to getting these free samples (most of which have been "business" books, so far), is that it sends a message to the publishers that they are running a good marketing campaign - that a couple of pages more than the free sample you would have received anyway (and which they could have set to be in the free sample, if they had bothered to do so) is something desirable by readers (even worse are those that pay for these in other ebookstores), rather than just standard marketing stuff that should be free on their web sites. And giving away the samples gets them seen in searches (looks like, for forever, it seems, unlike other free books that have an ending date). Getting seen there, getting free mentions in blogs and being seen in your archive all work to drive up sales, as just seeing message over and over is one key to getting a sale. Sadly, these samples do sell better than some of the actual books being given away (then again, so do the titles by Neo, Do Not Purchase versions 2.0x).

Hi Sporadic,
Just an FYI - "Sleepwalker" isn't showing up on the list yet.

Also, "Metagame" is no longer 1 cent; it's now either $2.39 or $2.99 (it's listed twice on amazon).

Bloodstained Sea is a history of the Coast Guard during World War II....Keep in mind that during wartime the Coast Guard is activated basically as an arm of the Navy, so this is a tale of hunting submarines and combat, as well as rescues at sea and patrols. It was published in 2004, so it is reasonably current, and at $1.99 the Kindle version is a steal compared to the paperback at $16.99!
