It's winter over here. So, of course, we've already been baking christmas stollen (because it's best when you leave it in a cold and dry place for at least two weeks before you eat it):

Besides, I already know what the kids will (or should) get for Christmas - this is for reasons of 'self-defense', actually: I know that their grannies usually buy Christmas presents in November, so I have to be early if I want to at least try to have some influence on what they buy

. So, no, DGma, you're not early at all! It was high time for this thread.

I just never really liked christmas... I feel it's a "forced getting together" kind of thing. You must have a good time. Everybody is smiling and laughing. People are sitting around a christmas tree, in front of a roar fire. People decide to visit their parents/children again. And lastly there's peace on earth.

Or so the TV wants us to believe...

My favourite way of "celebrating" christmas is to do whatever I normally do on a weekday, except that I've that day off. And because we have that day off, we can have a long dinner, with more elaborately cooked foods and such. And I can sleep in (if the cats would let me...)

This year, we'll be seeing my mother, but only because I wanted to to Hungary in winter one time. And the time between christmas and new year is the best period, because you can get a lot of free days without having to use a lot of vacation-days. And we'll staying till the first week of January so I can "celebrate" my birthday there too (another overrated thing).

I'm generally crankiest around christmas...

Lots of people are cranky during the 'season'. Expectations are so high, both with children and adults.

Children are looking at the booty angle, adults swear THIS year will be different.

Me, I just keep watching "A Christmas Story" and "Nat'l Lampoons Christmas Vacation"over and over.

That and Mannheim Steamrollers "A Christmas Concert" in VHS because it seems they never transferred it to dvd.......

Did you know, there is a radio station here that starts playing Christmas music exclusively November 1.

I hate shopping! But even as an agnostic, I'm still expected to buy gifts for everyone. I thought about converting to Judaism until after the holidays until I discovered that Hanukkah involves eight days of giving presents instead of just one!
