that might prevent me overdosing in the limited window it *is* available.

(actually, i just stockpile it in the fridge. i finished my last box of marzipan from last christmas only a few weeks ago. )
Stockpiling only works to a limited degree in that I have to forget about it first

I've also discovered I can order my favourite marzipan online, all year round. And they do a marzipan liqueur, too...

the baking quality marzipan is, but not for instance the little piggies and such (and of course they are never here, at least not that I have found)

Blocks of marzipan are, but all the cakes and gingerbread isn't.

And it seems easier to get Niederegger marzipan in the run up to christmas...

marzipan with liqueur inside (bleargh) or liqueur flavoured with marzipan (i'm intrigued) ?

that's frangipane. i suppose technically it's the same thing, but marzipan is usually covered in chocolate and only available at christmas. whereas frangipane is, as any baker worth their salt knows, an essential ingredient in pear tartes (and pies), and must therefore be available all year round.

Marizpan-flavoured liqueur. It's far too drinkable and doesn't taste very alcoholic :hic:

In the UK marzipan is both the blocks and the chocolate covered stuff. Frangipane over here is something along the lines of a lines of a Bakewell Tart, without the cherries.

(Wikipedia yields this definition, which seems to fit:
Quote:
A Belgian almond pastry tart.
Usually the individual cakes have a striped pattern on top, occasionally with icing (looks a little like a hot cross bun from above).
)

Although thanks to far too much reading of cookery books dealing with bakery I refer to the blocks as either marzipan or frangpane depending on my mood!

the flavor is obviously one of the biggest draws, but I find the texture to be a big part of the eating experience. I don't know about the liquer... sounds like it might have a helluva morning after kick

i don't know whether to be thrilled at the idea that such a thing exists, crushed that i don't think you can get it here, or relieved because i'd probably drink far too much of it.

I remember visiting Lubeck on a school trip and having a tour of the marzipan factory - oh happy days - the golden days of my youth *sighs*
