Calibre Thinks My 505 is a Pocket Edition

First off, I am new to the calibre software and not yet super savvy with it.

Calibre seems to think I have a pocket edition while I in fact have a sony 505. I wonder if this has something to do with the firmware which is 1.1.01.25200.

Anyway, not to big a deal since everything syncs over fine. I wonder though, if the format is not optimal since i have a 6 inch reader and the pocket is a 5 inch reader.

Anyone now how to change it to output to a 505 reader and not pocket edition?

Mine has been coming up with Pocket Edition Found on the popup, but the main screen shows 505 so I wasn't too bothered.

Aparrently they use the same Device ID's so Calibre has trouble telling them apart. I believe that from a screen resolution point of view they are the same so Calibre does the "right thing" anyway.

I asked this question a while back, and Kovid said they have the same device id's and all was cool --- no worries! Read on!

When u install the new .6.17 you are asked to choose a reader. The only options are PRS 500 and the new pocket ones. There is no longer a choice for the 505. I chose PRS 500. It doesn't seem to make a difference to me. I convert on the command line and just use Calibre as a bridge to my 505 . Calibe detects it just fine

The choice of reader when you first run calibre doesn't have anything to do with device detection. It sets a conversion profile for that device. If you are doing all of your conversion on the command line it will not be affected by your wizard choice. The profile sets things like screen size and resolution. It is extremely helpful when converting comics and PDFs as it sizes to the size of the device's screen.

I have been surprised that there has never been a profile for the iPhone/iTouch?

Maybe it is because there is no fixed font sizes so that it makes less sense? It still might make sense for images though.

Most people use EPUB though Stanza on their iPhone/iTouch. EPUB output is not changed by the profile. A proper EPUB viewer will simply resize the images to fit within the screen.

Using 6.17, Calibre thinks my 505 is a Pocket Edition also.

I successfully did a <send to device> so it appears that things work okay.

Are there any problems we should watch for with this mistaken identity problem?

Thanks!

Hmm, tell me one thing though: Should I choose the PRS-500 in the wizard, or the Pocket edition? I have a PRS-505.

Cheers for calibre. couldn't live without it. But I'm jsut confused with the missing 505 option in the wizard.

Kovid, was then changed because of the discontinuation of the 505 and/or it's "replacement?"

I hadn't even noticed it, but will check tonight.
