Have faith, grasshopper.

Free downloads usually mean they'll happen again.

Looks like Jingo was removed from Shortcovers. Sorry to everyone who did not yet download it.

Jingo is $6.39 direct from HarperCollins. Available in ePub, PDF, MS Reader & Mobipocket.

With any luck, they just jumped the gun and everyone will have it free soon.

Now, though, I'm afraid to restart my ADE ... it's so easy for them to just reach out and mark it "expired" and make it useless (unlike all my backed up kindle books).

Lspace.org does have some suggested reading orders on it, as well as lots of other background stuff.

Lspace.org's reading order is not recommended. Publication order is the reading order. That chart is just silly and should be deleted forever.

True, except if I'd started at the beginning, I probably would not have read the series. The first few books left me pretty cold.

My first Pratchett book was "The Truth." Still one of my favorites - made me believe that reading the entire series would be worth my while. And it was.

But he definitely gets better as he goes along.

Yup, I'm not too fond of the first books myself, and I probably would have quit reading Pratchett if I started with them.

The character arc method isn't a bad way to read...though there's the "slump" that some folks noticed in the quality of writing that happened...I guess around Jingo and some other books.

I do feel you'll miss out on things if you don't read in order. And you'll find out things you should not know till later on. So really published order is best. I liked The Colour of Magic. And since a lot of us have said it gets better there's no reason not read in published order. I do think that arc reading is just going to spoil the series overall.

I find the "YA" books to be perfectly adequate "A" books, and the "Science of..." books to be interesting and amusing intermissions, though if you think they're not your cuppa, well, at least now you know There are other Discworld books of assorted type - short stories, maps, others - listed at the Wikipedia link that might also interest)

Cheers,
