Why do companies insist on calling perfectly ordinary routers "Cable/DSL router"? If it says DSL, I expect to be able to plug my DSL in to it.

Okay, you can laugh at me for making this mistake, but what Linksys did was deceptive. Yes, I realize now that it should have said modem. But my current one doesn't say it's a modem, and it's a combo box with DSL, Wifi and ethernet. I thought that's what I just bought.

Definitely a good point. I'm sure many people have been confused (deceived) by it.

A router is a router, not necessarily anything to do with Cable or DSL it's the modem that connects to the Cable or DSL.....it's the router that connects multiple computers....

Has anybody tried holding a 'normal' conversation with a computer manual writer? Those people use English, either British or American, in a very different format to the one I learned so many moons ago.

That's nothing, you should try carrying on a conversation with a Database Administrator.

*cough*

There are tech writers, and then there are engineers and other scaries who write manuals in the spare time they have from their REAL job, which is causing the problems that the manual should guide you through. Except they don't see the problems as problems, or they woulda fixed em, so they don't guide, either.

Yours lovingly,
Ms. Manual Writer

That's got me written all over it. I mean your statement, not her boobs.

Mine is a simple complaint. I started getting a sore back from my matress, so I tried a different equally crappy mattress, no joy. Then I bought another very expensive mattress and it hurts WORSE than before.

On the up side at least it has gotten me back into yoga, trying to strengthen the back, but yeah constant pain for the first 5 hrs of the day as my back warms up and I only get 6 hrs sleep because the pain wakes me up..

A HOT shower (with the water pounding on your back) and a couple of Excedrin right when you get up might help?

Not the ideal answer, perhaps, but a suggestion.

Yes, you miss that distinction in English. You have you, you and you. I find it weird to use the familiar form to a stranger... (but I do know plenty of parents who think their kids should use the polite form to them too. I personally find that weird...)

I ordered it from a Chinese store directly. I'd have to search my email for the site. It arrived within a week!
