I'm with you here, Cat. We have the owner of the company coming in tomorrow for a meeting with our managers and dept. heads. The only thing I know for sure (because I got it from one of the managers) is that our sales are something like 300% ABOVE what was projected, so our store is in absolutely NO danger of being closed. Our Customer Service assistant thinks the meeting is about discouraging union organization, to which I say if they'd treat their employees right, the employees wouldn't be talking about unionizing. Also today it was announced that the payback points program that is so successful with our customers is being discontinued in six weeks, and no one knows what they're replacing it with. The customers are NOT happy, I was yelled at five or six times tonight about it. Why do customers think cashiers have any control whatsoever about corporate decisions?

Isn't it just!! There are days when I just want the darn thing to STOP!!

I'm sure you will do a great job in the new position! Look at it this way, maybe the nurses won't have as many complaints.

My mother is notorious for complaining to cashiers, waiters, etc., about things they have absolutely no control over. Having worked in both of those postions, and others in my pre-college and college years, I've never understood it. I have on occasion, started ranting at some customer service person on the phone, and then had to pull myself back from the brink and apologize.

I suspect the customers know they don't, but they're there and I guess they see them as a representative of the company, and therefore a valid target to vent their feelings at. It doesn't excuse their behaviour, though.

As I've frequently been on receiving end of that(*), when I do have a problem with a company, I'm almost always polite to whoever I happen to be talking to. The only time that might change is when it's the person I'm talking to who is the problem

(* I work in IT support, so apparently I am personally responsible for every line of code in all the software we use, and also privy to the reasoning behind every single decision made by the likes of Microsoft etc. On top of that, I also have set up all the PCs to be deliberately annoying at random important times and am trying to get people overloaded with stress so they end up in hospital (yes, someone did actually once accuse me of that. I offered to send them some gin or some flowers if they let me know which hospital - they've never been a problem since))

On a somewhat related note, my husband is maneuvering for an IT position in his current company. He now drives a forklift in Distribution, so it'll be quite a jump. At least he's going into it with his eyes open, though. He says being in IT means being responsible for anything that plugs into a wall outlet! Including the coffeemaker.

And for those of you who were wondering, (if anyone was, *grin*), I did manage to get Adobe Digital Editions installed without deactivating Windows 7.

Also anything that might possibly have a micro chip in it... for example - lifts. Yup, in a previous job, a few people thought (seriously thought) IT were responsible for the lifts

The other thing he needs to know is that the person with the problem has done nothing to their PC prior to it stopping working. Even if the boot mark in the case matches the shoes they are wearing and there are bits of case embedded in said shoes
