I do my best to forget about all things spider-related

The downside to this approach is that it means I get a shock each and every time I leave the house at this time of year, even though I don't actually mind the things being in the garden. (In the house is a different matter entirely *shudders*)

The spiders aren't in the house. They're out in the garden where you won't be walking (I'm just there because I'm doing "home maintenance"-type stuff. It's only the geckos that are inside (chasing the flies, moths, butterflies, ants, hornets, wasps, etc.).

C'mon! It'll be fun, and you probably won't get stung, bitten, poisoned or eaten even once!

Probably not very well. Geckos are warm-weather beasties. Spiders might be scary to some, but they're excellent at nuisance insect control. I assume you don't want those imports though.

Unless you have a species of spider over there that preys on clothes moths and does so by sitting quietly out of sight (maybe emitting a chemical that attracts the clothes moths, but not humans), and only moving when absolutely necessary AND when I'm not around. Oh, and giving no indication in any other way of its presence, except of course for the lack of moths.

you know, i think i might be able to live with spiders under those circumstances, provided we also add the criterion that they must be tiny, ideally microscopic in fact.
