I don't understand this. Flashing red? Flashing orange? Did it lose the charge? Are there any mp3's on the device? Do you have the slide show on for pictures? |

Hi, his other half here. There are no mp3s on and I don't have the slide show on.
When I reset the device and then try to turn it on the led is amber and then flashes for about 10 seconds goes off completely and the screen goes back to saying reader starting up. This all started when i tried to turn it on to read and nothing happened yet it was nearly fully charged and then i plugged it into my computer to charge, once i thought it had charged i turned it on and it said reader starting up |

I'm not familiar enough with the reader to probably solve this, but does anyone know if smithsc can format the sony reader via the computer? It might be a corrupt file causing the reader from correctly booting up.

Connect the USB cable to PC, then reset and turn on. It should boot into "USB connected" screen.

I always dread the thought of something happening. It just takes trying different things. I got out both 505's and was checking the manual. Since you said that it started when you thought you were charging from the computer, it may have been that it ended up depleting the charge. Once that happens it takes a full mains charge to get it ready again (psp or Sony wall charger only) The manual on page 72 states that it may take up to 40 minutes after a reset. Have you checked that page and page 28? You can (after you are sure that it is fully charged) reconnect to the computer by USB and do another reset. EDIT: igorsk beat me to the suggestion of trying a reset again.. ![]() Last edited by dreams; 10-01-2009 at 05:00 PM. Reason: EDIT: igorsk beat me to the reset again idea.... |

No it hasn't, my PC isn't recognising the device and when I go into the Ebook Library it doesn't recognise it either.
The only time it does is when it says firmware not updated correctly |

If i try and update the firmware it will complete the process and then restart but stops on the reader starting up screen What should I do?? Thank you |

Maybe if you can get the pc to recognize the reader , go to the folder where the files are for the 505 and or move all your books to your computer or create folder on desktop and put folders and everything into it, so it's saved , and you can always move it back , later. Try to empty the folders , cache, etc.
Then do a sony update. Maybe you can do a psr customizer update, loading stuff on the card to see if you can install that way. Maybe go to dev 505 area and research there too. Hopefully, one of us will come up with what is wrong with it. By start up screen you mean the screen that says READER starting up.... and it stays just at that screen, mine stays on that screen from cold start for about 25 seconds. Seems like the reader is not seeing a file or something. Maybe prs customizer is way to load on stuff, maybe not, but it is worth a try. You don't have a SD card in the unit do you? If you do , maybe take it out to see if that changes anything. Did you ever hack the unit? Last edited by richman; 10-01-2009 at 06:29 PM. |

Couple of things to try are to edit the firmware app to make it think it's got later firmware so it definitely does an update rather than maybe skipping it - the other is to try the Universal Flasher on an SD card & see if you can get it into firmware update mode that way?
