Sony software bug?!

Hi all,

I just got a PRS-600 and am having major issues with the Sony software and am curious if any others have or if there are any suggestions. Ever since I got my unit the sony software has not installed directly from the device correctly and just stalls aimlessly without loading. I downloaded the software direct from the website, and this installed ok, but the unit shows up as "Error" every single time the software loads. Sony is completely unhelpful and just keeps telling me to reinstall and restart over and over again... which I have! The unit is fully recognised on my pc, calibre and digital editions, it is just the sony software! To confuse things further, my SD Card is fully recognised by the sony software... I've also followed the calibre FAQ and deleted the media.xml file from my reader, but this hasn't changed anything.

I would not use the software at all, but I really would like the ability to transfer my notes and such to my computer. I've had this same problem on my Mac (10.4.x) and on my PC (vista).

Any solutions out there?

i had this problem too, using win 7. i just gave up on the crappy software. i either manually load files or use calibre (though i personally don't like calibre all that much).

No problem under Windows 7. Try running it in compatibility mode.

More information required I think. Which OS are you running and where do you live? Similar problems have been reported in jurisdictions outside of North America and there are some threads here which, I think, have a solution if you run a search.

I am using Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Vista Business 32bit. I bought the unit in North America, where it didn't work on Vista Home 32bit, and then brought it to the UK where I am now and I have the same problems.

I gave up on the Sony software ver3. Which if you downloaded from their site I assume you are using. It works perfectly on my netbook running windows XP but nothing I did could get it to work on Vista laptop. So with help from some of the great mobile read members, I changed to Ver2.5. It works perfectly. When I first got the Ver3 and it wouldn't install on my vista machine I went to the Sony Style store where I purchased my PRS-300. I asked one of the salesmen, who I know from many previous transactions, if he had heard of any problems with the Ver3 library software. He told me there weren't any that he knew off. Obviously not a member of mobile read.

Try doing what Seventh Son suggested above for Vista users, run the software in compatibility mode. I had all kinds of problems with v3 on Vista Home Premium 64bit, but since running it in compatibility mode I rarely have any issues.

I tried running it in compatability mode and it made no difference. That was probably my first move because I already had it (Ver3) working on an XP netbook. I'm quite happy with Ver2.5 the only real difference I see between the is that they made the GUI a little fancier and oh ya, screwed up all the coding!!!

I have contacted Sony and they don't know what the problem is. They escalated the problem up to their specialists but that was about 2 and a half weeks ago. They said they would call me when they figure out what the problem is, I will let you know if I ever hear anything.

Is it the "invalid type" error?. Check this informative post to fix that issue. On Windows 7 x64 I have to run it in compatibility mode and it work perfectly fine.

I've got a PSR-600, works great.
But after installing Adobe Digital Editions I cannot drag the books I bought from thelibrary (in the Sony software) into the reader.

I get a message that the book is registered by an other user (when installing ADE, I registered my computer... I can read the books on the computer, not on the Reader :-(

Solutions anyone? HELP

Did you also register your reader with your Adobe Digital account?

Hello,

My e-library keeps shutting down as soon as I connect my e-reader. It worked fine before I updated to 3.0. Does anyone know a solution for this without going back to the old version?

Are you outside the US/not using the US format version of OS X? That's the trick for 10.5. Can be that.

Nope, I am running US format. Thanks for the idea though.

I have spent hours talking with Sony support (not just the peons who don't even know that the Sony software now "works" with Mac but higher ups who supposedly know something). All of them have no clue what is going on with their software on Mac OSX 10.4.11 and I have yet to find anyone who it works for on 10.4, I would really hate to have to upgrade operating system for such a simple software program. Right now Sony has passed the problem on to their lab technicians but I am not that helpful after my experiences with Sony.
