I shipped mine by US Priority mail last Tuesday (one week ago). The replacment was handed off to FedEx yesterday (Monday) afternoon and is scheduled to be delivered into my hot little hands tomorrow (Wednesday).

It's a good thing I've had PLENTY of other things to keep me busy the past week!

USE CAUTION with that denatured Alcohol.
I tried it and it dulled the shiny finish and took quite some time with Meguiar's clear plastic polish to restore the surface.
It might be the coating that got smeared by using alcohol, as most plastics cases usually shrug off small amounts of alcohol, the cleanup from the method required lots of care to avoid the screen and button slots.

My advice is Don't.

Actually the usual methylated spirits form of denatured alcohol is supposed to be safe for most forms of plastics and is often used to clean plastic camera lenses. There are other forms of denatured alcohol though, and sometimes acetone or MEK will be used as the poison additive instead of methyl alcohol. Acetone or MEK will definitely dull a plastic finish.

You are probably exactly right there, especially if you do not know for sure what was used to poison the ethyl alcohol to denature it.

OK, thanks, I'll rethink the alcohol. So far I've only used my fingenail and I did touch the edge with one of my alcohol pads. I'll keep at it slowly.

If anyone else has an idea, please share it.

FWIW, I think that you are on the right track. If your blue is like mine the surface under the rubber paint is so shiny that it is hard to image any paint sticking to it for long. So every time you expose a new edge by peeling it with your fingernail, that new edge should start to lift after a pretty short time.

Well, If you purchase a small amount of food-grade alcohol, you can be sure that nothing has been used to poison the alcohol ;-)

Perhaps a little bit of vodka might work, or you can buy alcohol at pharmacy. Such alcohol is more expensive than denatured but a very small bottle won't bust your budget.

Yep, just don't do it in this manner though:

Directions for Rum Cake:

1. Before you start, sample the rum to check for quality.
2. Select a large mixing bowl, measuring cup, etc. Check the rum again. It must be just right! To be sure the rum is of the highest quality, pour 1 level cup of rum into a glass and drink it as fast as you can. Repeat.
3. With an electric mixer, beat butter in large fluffy bowl. Add 1 seaspoon of thugar and beat again. Meanshile, it’s important to make sure the rum is of the finest quality—try another cup.
4. Open the second quart of rum if necessary. Add 1 arge leggs, 2 cups of fried druits and beat till high.
5. If the druits get stuck in the beats, just pru it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the rum again for cinscistincy.
6. Next, sift 3 cups of salt and feffer (it really doesn’t matter). Sample the wum again.
7. Sift 1 pint of lemon goose, add 1 bablespoon of brown thugar, of whatever color tou can find. Mix well. Grease oven, turn cake pan to 350 greeds.
8. Noe, pour the whole mess sinto the boven and ake. Check the crum again and go to bed.

What about the product, Un-du it. It removes sticky adhesivs. This might get the residues off without harming the surface. It kind of oily. It says Acid Free, Photo Safe, use on, among others, plastics.

Any thoughts. I'll try it later today if no one thinks it's a bad idea.

As a first step, you could just try it on the inside of your battery cover where it will not show. I have plenty of overspray on the inside of my battery cover.

I'm aware that both users mentioned that they do not intend to return their units for replacement, but I would stress that you might not be covered for a warranty return for defective paint finish if you take measures to remove it.
