Easy as 1, 2, 3...
And there is still the problem of having 4 different version instead of two.

Gen 3 ? Opus ? What version of firmware and gen3 ?
I only saw my gen3 crashing with html, and some weirdo pdf.

Well, that's not our problem. They made a mistake, imho, installing the new firmware during Paris meet-up. The rest of us now feels like second-rate owners - and are rightly incensed with Bookeen.
I expect this upcoming firmware will be the last one we'll be seeing for mobi users, so they will have only 2 different versions to maintain. If they don't manage to integrate them somehow, that is...

Don't. We still waiting for the update we actually need (the ePub one).

I'll be you problem if the firmware gets delayed some more because bookeen needs to test 4 version rather two.

I sure hope you get paid for your work in this thread, Eowyn Carter, because you're working harder at Bookeen's public relations than they themselves are. Unless of course you are indeed part of their public relations, in which case it would more honest to just say so.

Anyway, Bookeen seems to have made a mistake of releasing different versions of their Cybook hardware and then being unable to support different versions. A little planning, guys! Seriously, when you decide to modify your hardware THINK of the consequences. Think of how it could affect your ability to support your product. (seems obvious enough to)
Somehow I can picture this 22 year old programming student working in the weekends for Bookeen, getting all confused about insurmountable problem of the mystical serial numbers. "What?!? this one is totally different from that one???!?!? how can I program in such madness?!"

Also why are we only getting information about Bookeen's product from somebody unrelated (?) to their product on some public ereader forum? Are all their customers supposed to find this place to know why "soon" means more than a month in French? The only information Bookeen supplies seems to be on their blogspot, and the information that they do supply is a incorrect. (ie. "soon" being a lie!)

People smart enough to update the firmware are smart enough to identify a number on a device. Don't you agree??

Hope the firmware gets public before they all start testing Beaujolais Nouveau 2009 and forget the world is waiting for ePub support
(I'm not buying anything non ePub - so now Bookeen is partially responsible for the financial recession ;-))

Saves a lot of money, honestly! Consider this discussion on Bookeen's site. They'd have to hire someone to even handle all the posts of this thread.

Bookeen made a major mistake with posting "soon". It would have been better to hide and say nothing at all until (when/if) the update ist finished. They didn't, and they know the only way to get out of this mess is to finally publish an update.
Any comment by them would be taken with a grain of salt by now, provided customers are still content to listen.

Public relations is a key asset for small companies. Bookeen messed this one. They'll just have to stick to the quality of their products for the months to come. Not easy with a somewhat outdated Gen3 and a seemingly buggy Opus.

Nah, we had that before and everybody was complaining... It's always best to tell the truth! If you don't know, then say so, but come back every other week and give an update on the progress.

And when they finally release that update it will still have bugs, it has always been so - there is no such thing as bugfree software...

I can't see why still having 3 bugs is sooooo much better then having 5!? (And it can't be major "A" bugs at this time - which keep the whole thing from working at all, must be "B" and "C" ones... so what?!) All their former releases still had bugs and they even released the buggy Opus and the Weltbild-Gen3...

Please Bookeen, listen to us, release that d*mn thing, it won't ever be bugfree - make everybody happy and fix that bugs with the next version!!!

I think netronix might have been the one deciding to change the hardware.
PocketBook did someting there, they added a '+' , that least made the customer aware that his his device was not the same than the non + version.
I didn't know what version I had until i did the update.

Yeah, I should have say 'I', instead of "We".
My point was, Yeah, some of us had an update, but i'm still waiting for ePub on my now useless gen3, and some much needed bugfix for my opus. So update or not, i'm still waiting.

Nope. I just have different point of view. I won't make a mess of my life just for an update.
I reacted quite the way when some people went "hey samsung we need updates for our P3", when samsung did fix the one that needed fixing. (Though halas, breaking another something i hope they'll fix.) My P3 does what i paid for, good enough for me.

And releasing it will probably lead to more bugs found but also better bug reports so that new and old bugs are easier to fix.

Maybe Cybooks are reading devices with a bad karma which aren't supposed to experience any software update during their life span.

Maybe they hope of being reborn as an iRex or something.

Do reading devices dream of firmware updates?
