Another excellent read is the The Shooters which is the 4th book in the Presidential Agent series by W.E.B. Griffin.

Quote:
The #1 New York Times-bestselling series returns with a story as up-to-date as the headlines.

The novels of W. E. B. Griffin featuring Delta Force officer Charley Castillo and his band of troubleshooters have won wide praise for their realism, action, and "punchy prose that connects like a right hook" (Chicago Tribune).

Now, still in Argentina tying up loose ends from his investigation into the UN oil-for-food scandal, Castillo is startled when a young man is marched into his office at gunpoint, caught trying to sneak through the fence. It turns out he's an American officer, a lieutenant assigned to the embassy in Paraguay. A key agent for the DEA has disappeared while trying to interdict drugs and very little is being done about it, for phony diplomatic reasons. The lieutenant's heard of Castillo, knows what he's done, and wants his help in getting the agent back. More than that, he's got an innovative plan for dealing with the drug lords themselves.

Intrigued, Castillo gets permission to try it, but the President has just one warning for him: Don't get caught. Charley couldn't agree more-but it might turn out to be something easier said than done. . . .

Filled with Griffin's trademark rich characters and cutting-edge drama, this is an exceptional novel by "a writer of true virtuosity and talent" (Fort Worth Star-Telegram).

Just finished _The Lens_ by Steven Jordan who says this:

Next.. _Verdant Skies_ by the same author. I've heard this is his best book yet... It also could be the October MRBC selection.... we'll see.

I'm in the midst of "The Brutal Telling" by Louise Penny - if you haven't discovered her "Three Pines" series of mysteries set in Quebec you're missing a fantastic series - lyrical writing, a memorable cast of characters, a humane police detective - all set in a Shangra-La in the north woods of Canada. I highly recommend this series - all 4 are available in Kindle format.

Just about to start Steve's *Verdant Skies* myself, Bob. I've been looking forward to it since I downloaded it last week, but I had a minor hitch ... in that I couldn't read a word. The font was too tiny and wouldn't adjust. One of our MR friends here just explained how to fix the problem using 'preferences' in the Calibre library. Two minutes of a job -- and voila! Cheers. Neil

I'm sort of dragging thru Pratchett's Pyramids. It is the first Discworld book that has been boring to me. I think adding luggage to the story would help.

Finished Hard Evidence, #3 of the Dismas Hardy series. definitely recommend John Lescroart for crime fiction readers! Currently reading Heaven's Keep, the latest Cork O'Connor novel by William Kent Krueger.

I remember reading a book of short stories by Lorrie Moore ages ago. I loved it, but never read anything else from her. Another name to add to my "authors to check out" list...?

Re-read Evelyn Waugh's *Scoop* last night, for maybe the dozenth time over the years, but first time on an ereader. It just seems to get more hilarious by the read. N
