The problem at the moment is that when I generate the file it calls it 'chapter one' or some other non-intuitive name. With the html it was semi-ok. I'll try converting from the rtf and will see how it goes.

RTF is one of the formats supported by the 505 so should not cause you any problems. It certainly worked OK for me, but if Simon can give you LRF so much the better.

Spacejock,
Given the trouble I had, it probably is the header that is causing the problem. It's likely marked up in DOC language to be a TITLE rather than a header or something weird like that. Hopefully RTF will strip that out for you. If not, I know other people have had to strip more of the .DOC language from the HTML...but that is a real hassle. I did it with one of my files before I figured out that RTF usually helps things. Good luck!! Maria |

I've tried downloading the first book several times, but (I know this seems wierd) I keep getting the second book.
As I missing somthing? The Book I have is called "Second Course". Is that the first book or second in the series? |

Sounds to me like you have the second book. The first is just called Hal Spacejock, I think. Lucky you!! Well, except that you're probably trying to read the first one...

I just checked the links at the website and all six download the same zip file of book 1 (Hal Spacejock). Unless you hit a momentary switcheroo at the site (maybe they put up #2 so someone having problems could download, but if they did, I don't know why they would have used the same file name). |

I think book 2 was available for a while for some sort of contest, but that was a while ago...

I'm downloading from HalSpacejock.au
I just tried it again and got the same one. So, I'm wondering if the book is just titled wrong and this is indeed the first book. The first line in the book is Hal Spacejock was sitting at the Black Gull’s flight console, his attention riveted to a small chessboard balanced amongst the toggle switches, flashing lights and status displays. Can anyone confirm whether this is from the first of second book. |

Actual link? Because HalSpacejock.au isn't even a valid web site

So, you must be using a link to some other location. Perhaps one emailed to you for a contest (or found in some other way?) |

BTW, yes Second Course was a giveaway for a while (in return for linking to his web site). I dug out my copy and this is how the the title page starts:
Hal Spacejock: Second Course by Simon Haynes Book two in the Hal Spacejock series So, clearly it's book 2. This is the first paragraph: Chapter 1 The interstellar freighter Volante powered through space, her streamlined flanks speckled with pinpoints of light from distant stars. In the flight deck, Hal Spacejock was studying the main viewscreen from his customary stance in the pilot’s chair — hands clasped behind his head, boots up on the flight console and a cup of coffee at his side. OK, just checked book one. It looks like that is what you have (but no idea why you think it is named Second Course - you are getting the ZIP file, right?). Here's the first line from my copy of Hal SpaceJock:
Hal Spacejock was sitting at the Black Gull’s flight console, his attention riveted to a small chessboard balanced amongst the toggle switches, flashing lights and status displays. |

The actual link I used was http://www.spacejock.com.au/Hal1Download.html
So I guess I must have gotten in on the old deal. What link should I use for book 1? |

Sorry about that last post - now I understand what you're saying.
The reason I thin it's Second Course is because that's the metafile info title and the cover that came with it and the cover I get if I do an update from Calibre. Oh well, at least I can begin reading knowing it's the first book. |

Well, I was sitting here checking links and getting rather confused, but it sounds like everyone is now happy and has a book. My work here (that I didn't even do) is now done.
Whew. |
