A woman who reads is une lectrice. Liseuse is a kind of desk or a piece of cloth. Both usages are a bit out-of-date, like ordinateur (today a computer, before a religious man) fifty years ago

I completely understand using the word "liseuse" in Lounge forum, among MobileRead regulars who know what they agreed for it to mean. However, I believe that it shouldn't be used in News and Commentary thread, without even a word of explanation what it's supposed to mean, as it's making the "news" unintelligible. At least until the word is used somewhere else that MobileRead.

I will preface the following comments with the background information that I have an 8 year old daughter.

We were watching Disney's Hannah Montana show, one of Ryleigh's favorites I'm sorry to say, and the main characters mentioned an ebook. They were not reading the ebook, they were listening to an audio book on an iPod. The problem with calling the device an *ebook* is that it is misleading and ultimately incorrect. I am not saying that the Hannah Montana characters should be used as anything even remotely considered as an intellectual resource, but it does point out the ambiguity of the word.

I believe that new words cannot be imposed but it makes its own way to be largely used and then it can be added to dictionaries or whatever.

Liseuse specifically doesn't mean anything to me and probably no "outsider" will ever guess what it means. I'd prefer ebook reader and even better, stop trying give it a name!!

My son is currently learning C+++. I remember learning it when it was just C without any of the +'s!! I guess the extra +'s are just people really liking the new changes in the language!

People come here from either a link someplace else or via a hit in a search engine. If i'm looking for a specific device and using a search engine to find information on this device, if this word is used in place of what the manufacturer calls the device, in the search to find it, I might miss out on seeing it mentioned at MR due to that silly word. Also, people with little experience with eBooks and readers won't know to use that word when searching. So in the interest of new inexperienced users, can we leave out the word?
