i'm more worried about oily fingerprints on the rubberized back of the 600 than i am about them on the screen. this is because it's harder to wipe a rubberized surface, and i'm worried that if it gets finger-wear marks, it'll be hard to sell later. i usually keep my fingers pretty clean, though, especially if i'm going to relax and use the reader for an extended period.

I love this PRS-600. It's great.

Yes the screen is glossier than the 505. Not enough to matter; anyone that claims the device unreadable is just being overly dramatic.

I read a lot of nonfiction books and the bookmark feature on the 505 just was dumb. It didn't sync with the eBook software and really wasn't very useful overall. Now I can write, highlight and search books. So much nicer.

The dictionary is awesome. Double tap word, meaning pops up. Click the little finger on the dictionary pop up to view the full definition exert.

The unit itself is much faster than the 505 though I hear the 300 is too.

I prefer it from a physical aspect as well. All the sides of the 600 are smooth and rounded off. Depending on how I held the 505 the bottom of the unit sometimes dug into my fingers a little bit. I also won't be hitting those damn page buttons anymore that exist on the 505 when I'm shifting my hands on the unit.

The 505 isn't bad. I loved it until I crushed it on accident but I'm definitely happier with the 600.

You know addicts love to have company. It's kind of like back in the 50's when household's only had one TV and now we have one in every room. That's how ereaders should be. We should have one in every room.

Having multiple readers is likely to increase too as the variety of form factor increases, I have to say I have been quite tempted to get a 300 and that large screen one from irex sounds nice too.

I am worried about scratching the screen. That may be old thinking - but when I had iPaqs (before my Mac conversion ) scratched screens and screen protectors were an issue.

Not sure about the idea of having a stylus to turn a page - would feel odd I think. Having said that, I used to notice some flashing black and white when I turned pages on the 505 - that seems to have vanished these days

I have the 300 in pink which is actually quite nice. Have the red/rose cover with it and it fits together perfectly.

I'm actually still thinking about getting a 600, although I need to think hard since it's a lot of money and I don't know if I can justify owning 2 eReaders.

I've purchased 4 Readers so far (beginning with the 500 Reader for $60 deal a while back, followed by a 505--gf got my 500--and recently a 300, plus I gave my sister a 505 for her b-day last year). About to purchase my 5th--as a b-day gift for my mom. Debating between the 300 and the 505 for her.... The simple interface and clear screen are important, the complex interface and extra features of the 600 are a negative for her.

Hahaha. On a more serious note, I'd be interested in hearing how you and others use your different Readers. Also, is there any way to synch them so that you can be at the same place in the book you are reading if you switch Readers?

There are still page turn buttons, too. Really, the only thing I use the touch screen for is "annotating" pages. I create a lot of books, and when proof-reading them, I mark corrections on the screen on my PRS-600 as I'm reading. This works very well indeed.

well my silver 505 is for fiction, non-fiction, horror, sci-fi, young adult etc
my red one keeps my collection of fantasy and urban fantasy books. I hated the way my 505's coped with memory cards, so got two readers, each holding a different collection of books, that way I had them all to hand depending on my mood.......

my 600 can easily hold all my books, so that is the one that now gets used the most, plus I use that for note-taking etc.

if I get the 300, it will be because its just cute ! lol

I have three Readers. One is the Cybook- pretty, but at the moment it can't do everything I want from a reader, until they give you the right firmware so I got myself a 505, and then a 600. Justification is: the 600 has notetaking. And dictionary. The glare is subjective and IMHO it depends also on the degree of eye fatigue you have on a particular moment.

I did upgrade from a 505 to 600 and I don't regret it at all. I was able to sell my old reader. My husband works for Cisco and we get a discount at Sony so I saved $30 on the 600. Inthe end it only cost me $40 to upgrade andit was worth it.

I don't read books where I "need" a dictionary, but i really wanted it anyway. I have a reasonably good vocabulary, but ido come across words that I wish I knew the meaning of. It really helps me build my vocabulary.

This is a personal preference, but I never really liked the look of the 505. I liked how it worked, but it looked busy to me. I like the simplicity of the 600. And I don't find the menus complicated at all. In fact it is easier to navigate than the 505 because of the touchscreen.

One big advantage that I didn't anticipate is the speed of the page turns. It really does make a difference.

Finally, I don't annotate books, but I like creating other notes. With the 600 you can create handwritten note so I can make lists or write reminders to myself. Again, I didn't think about this when I bought it, but it really has come in handy.

I do agree with suggestion that the best way to decide if the upgrade is worth it for you is to buy one. If you like it, keep it. If not, return it. But make sure you check out the return policy first to make sure there is no restocking fee.

Unfortunately in the UK there is no consumer "right" to return a product simply because you don't like it. The only circumstance under which you can return a product is if it's faulty.
