I have to say that I'm more than a little surprised at the hostility and rudeness displayed by some of those who don't like the word.

I agree, this has been much more divisive than decisive. Perhaps this thread has served it's purpose and should be served.

I for one don't like it for many reasons. first and foremost is

The first time anybody sees it, they will be like WTF is this person talking about.
Only a small number of people actually use it, and unfortunately, they have no backing at all to use it. Maybe if someone created a product called a Liseuse, or this website was called Liseuse Leasure, I could understand using it. but inventing a word is just silly

90% of people who have never done any research about ebook readers call them Kindles, atleast the proper term, E-book reader is descriptive, and when you say "I'm reading on my sony kindle" people will know that you have a sony prs, and those that don't know wont care what you say, as long as they say it.

silly words are silly.

Seems a fun thing has turned pretty nasty...as I said before....people it is JUST A WORD. And I think it's fun some like to use is and some "get it" and thanks to Zelda (it was your application of the term for ebook readers right?) for using it to begin with...but like I also said, I won't order a croissant because, well I feel like someone in the room should be in a French (ironically) Maid Costume taking me to a "happy room"....

Fact is, French lack a words to define e-readers. Hence why the word "liseuse" showed up. While i'm against trying to make up french words out the well-know-and-used-in-France English words. Everyone says "e-mail" not courriel or whatever, why not liseuse as the French word for e-readers.

26 are fine, stout, friendly and imaginative sorts with a happy smile and a cheeky rosy glow in their cheeks.

And that leaves 74 to warm their bottoms upon fences.

No more true than in English. The French translation of E-Reader is as above.

Maybe we need to make up an English word since there isn't one, how about
