Actually at one time in history they did line up where the seasons and calendar were taken from the same source. Unfortunately the Julian calendar misses a few days over the years and the Winter Solstice drifted a few days, hence the start of the year is no longer Winter Solstice. Historically the start of the year used to be the vernal equinox in most cultures, except Roman. Dale

Yes, they found it was very inconvenient to have administrative changeovers so soon after being able to take the field, so they moved the year around a bit. Personally, I can't say it matters to me.

I think we're all way over analyzing this. The official announcement says "later this year". My advice is to focus on that.

No release date or time frame for Canada release, but apparently it will be the same hardware and software, so if I can buy one here I may just still do it

-- Now, since the coment on the I-to-I blog has conflicting information, I shall choose to believe the more disirable time of next month. Though Irex is going to need some serious feature improvement to keep me away from the other delicious devices coming out.

Now isn't everyone glad that I went asked when it would be released in the blog. I'm kind of excited.. It looks like a good device. It is kind of weird that plastic logic and Irex are both partnering with B&N. I wonder what brought this about.

excellent news...and an example of why I have been posting that anyone considering a new reader (even if they do not already own one) wait until Dec-Jan to make a choice. the DR800 and the upcoming Pocketbook 302 model are going to be very close in design, though I give the nod to iRex on the digitizer alone, if it is still Wacom that is...yet at the same time having two, or more, devices with this level of features at about the same price point, can only drive down the prices across the board as each strive to sell as many as possible.

I fully agree with you. The argument "there always will be something new and better coming out soon" is usually valid. But at this very moment we are awaiting a great new generation of readers with significantly improved features. It does make sense to wait until early next year at this very moment. Unless one really only wants the most basic features, then one can buy now.

And oh yeah for a gotta have it now device, the Jetbook if you can find it for that $169 sale price is very worth a look. Still, I am waiting those few months more not only because I can but because I really sense it's the right move as of this microsecond anyway...hehehehe....

If you want a larger screen reader, I think its a waste of money to get a small screen reader that will just be pushed aside later on. $169 is almost 1/2 the cost the the iRex. So don't go for a reader now when you want one that will be out soon.

And it would be a waste to spend $800 on the DR 1000 right now if the plastic logic or the DR 800 might be good enough, for $400 only.

Still I agree it is sort of a waste of funds to buy readers that are not significantly different other than display size, unless one has special needs for a larger display, but those readers will likely always come with more, ahem, features...just so they can increase the price 2-3x by adding another $15-$20 in components.
