I wish people would stop mentioning the local library as being cheaper. It is not so for everybody and the selection is also not always large enough to meet everybody's tastes.

And I find paperbacks much more hassle. I need to get to town to buy one, or be at home for the mailman to deliver one. The prices of pbooks are higher than those of ebooks. The selection of pbooks is smaller (unless I order abroad, which means I'll have to wait even longer before I can read a book and the price goes up even more) than those of ebooks.

So, while your points might be true for some people, they most certainly aren't true for me.

Last statement I agree with, the first, not so much.

My ereader has me reading a lot of authors that would NEVER have had a chance to get their works out there without the ebook and e-readers. Not the least of them the very talented authors who are also part of the MobileRead community.

Yeap. I didn't found time to re-read some book since i have my reader. There is always something new to read

Why ?
I'll definitively get e-book over paperback. Main reason being the reader is smaller and lighter than the average paperback. And I already have enough books filling my room.
As far as price are concerned, i won't go over paperback prices. And there, when you buy English book in France, they are about 12 euros. Most of time, e-book will cost less.

Where do you live? Because in my country (Spain), you can't find English books at your library (forget about any new book if you find something), paperback ARE NOT CHEAPER than e-books and perhaps you live at Buckingham Palace, I don't, so I don't have enough room to store which I like.

I think that generalizing like this is dumb.

You can probably order though amazon .com or .uk.
At least we french have amazon, and the fnac.

Weird, because the new-fashionable book are usually the easier to find.

The cheapest way is BookDepository but usually they're more expensive than Fictionwise with buywise. And you still have to store them.

In English? In Spain? Urban Fantasy or Mystery? Not in a public library, that for sure

Yes, but with the 505 I don't think the ePub support was DRM, was it? So buying a DRM ePub was no help - you still needed to strip it so you could use it on the 505. Which tool time, effort, and knowledge, and was one of the complaints at the start of this thread. I know the 300/600 support of DRM ePub alleviates that issue somewhat, but that is a very recent development since the release of those devices.

Opportunitstic of Sony to jump on the ePub bandwagon - some may say that's vision, but if so it's been blurred for many years.

PRS-505 does support Adobe's ADEPT DRM for PDF and EPUB files.

the 505 has supported ADEPT for quite some time. It is the 500 that does not support it.

It was added to the north american 505s at some point in a firmware upgrade, but the 505s released in europe came out after that and never actually had a time when they didn't support epub drm.

I might be better off if drm wasn't supported on my sony as then I probably wouldn't spend as much money on books.

That is so frustrating for us in the UK. I am not a techie, I want to buy a book, download it to my Sony 505, and enjoy the book. I find it difficult and very frustrating.
There are not many sites or ebooks available here in the UK. Certainly free ones are very very few and far between. I don't understand why we cannot buy books from the US. Or even download the free ones. If I was persoally there I could go into B&N and buy a book with no restrictions so??????
Over here I can still buy pbooks at half the cost of an ebook. And it uses all that paper etc!
Rant over from quite a disappointed user.
