What do you think of the name "liseuse?"

As the title says, what do you think of calling reading devices liseuses?

Personally, I don't care for the term. I think it was a great idea but the word itself doesn't work for me. It's made up of sounds that aren't common in English, so it sounds too much like a foreign word (not even a loan word, but a foreign word), to me.

If I can't pronounce it or spell it, then I'll certainly not use it for my ebook reader. Which is what I call it, "my ebook reader."

With terms like ebook, ereader, etc. actually becoming known to the general public even with any flaws they have with regards ambiguity, it just seems needlessly unhelpful to the progress of ebook acceptance to try and force some random foreign word into use, especially when its not even the term of choice for an ebook reader in its own language let alone in english.

There was a recent discussion in Wikipedia related to the removal of the word from Wikipedia at least partially because there are no "reliable sources for verification". The only cited source that I noticed was MobileRead.

I agree, and 'ebook reader' is the term I use as well, though I don't have a dedicated one myself anymore. For those that just need to shorten it, it is too bad we can't go back in time and introduce electronic book reader as EBR along the same lines as PMP and DVR - people would have become comfortable with that.

I agree.

Does it really matter? I actually thought the whole thing was a harmless little piece of fun and now feel like the whole thing has gotten blown way out of proportion. If you want to call it a reader, liseuse, ereader, digital book, or Henry, go ahead! It's completely up to you.

I prefer real words from the current English language. Sometimes you have to create new words, but sometimes it's just annoying because people have to learn what it means! In this case, wikipedia doesn't even like it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liseuse

Well, as a French, when I speak french I call it "liseuse".
Here, nonetheless, it's my Cybook !

Now, I think too that Anglophones will have all the difficulties to pronounce it correctly (even if personnally, when I read an english word I don't know, I almost always search for its correct pronounciation to avoid using a bad one ! )

One think I appreciate in English is the variety of words, that often can be only translated in french with several words. So for a while I appreciate here that the french term is only one word, as the english is two !
That is my lazy side !

But if I started telling people I was reading books on my Henry, they'd look at me oddly and think I'd really lost it!

(OK, I don't have one, but I'm seriously tempted when our current vacuum cleaner dies)

I started the thread because I saw another thread hijacked because it had the word in the title. I figured if we had a current thread about it we could let people vent here, rather than having every thread where the word is used turn into a vent thread.
