I'm not rather sure that is correct. If this is really a "touch" screen then you should be able to use your finger and the Watcom tablet doesn't allow for that.

So... we will have to wait and see if it is really "touch" or if it is "requires stylus" which woudn't really be "touch screen" now would it?

EDIT: From the engadged web site:

Quote:
There's also 2GB of built-in storage, memory card expansion and stylus input ("true finger touch" is coming in Q2 2010 to a future product, right now you can only use the stylus, and a color reader is in the works as well for 2011)
Not sure how they can call this a "touch" screen. That is a bit disingenuous.

You have to buy it separately but it's black.

Looks like engadget is a little mixed on the device. Sounds a little like another device from iRex that is not completely worked out from a software standpoint. I'll be anxious to try one, but won't likely buy one if it still needs more software development to enable core functionality since they are notorious for promising one thing and then being unable to deliver. I'm hoping they've gotten their act together, but I'm not optimistic. That's unfortunate because this is the exact size device I was waiting for, 8 inch screen, minimal bezel....really looks nice from a design perspective although some of the pictures seem to indicate the page bar doesn't fit real well.

This is pretty exciting. I was quite sure I would get a PRS-900, but now I'll have to check these both out in person first. The lack of note taking is very unfortunate, especially if this device is supposed to be out next month.

The newspapers look quite good, but image resolution is still lacking. The layout is vastly superior to Kindle's offerings (at least, the ones I have seen).

I'd like to see the specs - mainly resolution and how many shades of grey it supports. It looks like it has dictionary support, but they didn't mention it specifically, did they?
All in all, I 'm now leaning towards this eBook Reader. It looks really slick and supports a good amount of formats.

I think it would be safe to assume at least 16 shades of grey. iRex has been doing higher resolution and grey levels since the launch of the first iLiad.

I really hope they got the battery life and sleep functionality squared aware with this device. If they did, i'll be in line to get one. I absolutely loved the screen clarity and screen size of my iLiad, but the lack of sleep and poor battery life forced me in another direction.

I had my hopes up for this device but not any longer. According to Endgadget, a stylus is required. That's problematic -- too easy to lose. Add to that the fact that it's newspaper partner doesn't offer the New York Times in the p version layout, well that's nail number 2. Nail number 3 is the white cover. Why not pre-dirty it for me and make it black or brown or some other color that doesn't show every speck of dirt and grime.

I note that Endgadget wasn't too impressed with the interface although it did hedge by saying some more testing is needed before giving a final opinion.

But we are almost there. Perhaps the true touch version in 2Q 2010 will be the winner.

I've never paid any attention to the iLiad since i would never pay that much for a reader. How bad is the battery life?

Depends on your definition of "touch screen".

I believe with the latest version they've gotten it up to 12 or so hours, but it still takes close to a minute to boot up. The lack of suspend just doesn't make it as convenient to read for me. I want to be able to pick up my device, turn it on and be reading in a couple of seconds. Both the Kindle and Sony can do this so there is no reason iRex can't as well.

The original iLiads were 12 hours. The current V2 and Book Edition is 15 hours.

This is exciting, and will make my decision for my next reader difficult (which isn't bad!). Heres hoping for better battery life.

I hate paying ridiculous sales tax too (8.1% here), but you could still order it online from Best Buy's website to avoid it.

How is that? Best Buy has a store in I am guessing every US state so they must charge you sales tax on an online purchase.
