That was what we saved when we *both* quit. Still a lot of savings for just 2 people. WDE.

*edit* and that was in 2005 dollars and when prices of ciggies were cheaper!

I haven't read that book, but I'll be 2 years smoke-free next month, and I can confirm that the psychological addiction can be much stronger than the physical one. You have to totally change your behavior. The habits you develop when you smoke are very hard to break. You get so used to picking up a cigarette when you do certain things and have half of it smoked before you realize you even lit it.

Good luck VCat. If you've been smokeless for 4 days, you can go forever (believe it or not.)

holy carp !!!! who has room for one of those things ??? i'd need a whole new appartment just for the cats to put that in !! yeesh ! of course, i bet they'd love it. but they'll just have to make do with the armoire because i bet it also costs a bleeding fortune (space issues aside).

i'm not sure the thing in that photo is quite the same though, the catit circuit is a multi-part tube you can assemble like a toy train track in various configurations, with several cut-out holes in the top, and there's a ball inside that runs along the track back and forth. my cat loves toys which are hidden inside things (bags, under the quilt, etc.) and she loves trying to catch things which are moving so i think she'll like that toy (she better, it costs something like 15€ ). ironically, i'd finally made up my mind and went to the website this morning to order it, and... the site is down for maintenance. of course.
That's just what it'll look like if you buy al lthe pieces. It's pretty cool, you buy one section at a time and they fit together. So you can buy one or buy them all. We have the Hideaway one.

Hang in here. WDE.
August 31st was The Loved One's 19th anniversary of his last smoke. I remember the day, as I got called in to work early to cover his shift as well (actually, he was the Manager, my Manager, but he did morning shift sometimes), as he'd been found lying under his work desk with a lighter in one hand and an unlit smoke in the other. A massive heart attack tended to change his perspective on quite a lot of things, apparently...and I'm not complaining, seeing as within a few months I was a significant beneficiary of one such change.

Ironically, the doctor said if he'd done what he probably should have done, and stayed home from work that day for feeling so bad, he'd have ended up dead on his own floor rather than waiting for an ambulance on work's.

I think the lesson here is, if you have a heart attack, your employees will cover your shift (but don't feel bad, because they might end up having "inappropriate workplace conduct" with you afterwards anyway).

Cheers,
Marc

exactly ! for me the psychological addiction is the problem. in fact, the physical withdrawal is so slight you might barely notice it, and when you get a craving, if you can just not give in right away, it passes in literally 30 seconds. on the other hand, the gestures of smoking and the situations where you have the impulse to smoke are much harder to get rid of. but that book does a very good job.

The prohibitionists would sell a lot more books if they didn't always censor the racy scenes.

I think it is similar to the "Spend $30,000 on a new car to get 5 more MPG and save money". Wait what?

No no. You should buy a car because you will get rich on all the money you don't have to spend on gas.

Oh oh... also go out an buy a lot of stuff that is on sale. Then you will really be raking in the dough.
