Easy enough to get the Iphone Kindle app with a gift certificate from Apple's US itunes store. But you still can't get Kindle books with gift certificates from Amazon US, you still need a US credit card. I tried and failed.

Logged into Fictionwise today and deleted my newsletter preferences. Waste of time them telling me about books they won't sell to me.
I used to spend over $200 every month there but it's gone down to practically zero lately. Every new book I might like is either only eReader or eReader and mobipocket. Don't want them. I now happily pay more money to Harlequin and Regency Reads every month. I just feel happier supporting these companies. Just wish I hadn't wasted my money on a 5 year membership at Fictionwise. They are ignoring epub and pushing eReader. It's beginnig to look like the kindle mobi will rule the US through Amazon and the rest of the world will go epub. And Fictionwise will have to change or die. At the minute I'm voting die. |

Maybe they changed it, I tried it. After entering the gift certificate number the website still requested a credit card "for payment after the amount has been used up", or something similar.

Are you sure ? And can't you bypass that? I opened my account at the end of august and am using it every week without any problem. I have no credit card registered under this account.

I think EPub will win in the long run. Sony is on the right side for once and Amazon is playing the role Sony has played in the past. |

If they start seeing inroads being made by other companies then they can just as easily switch things up by allowing others to make kindle hardware if they thought they could keep their format on top or could start offering ePub content themselves if it was B&N that became their main rival. When you consider how well Amazon seem to have planned things out, it does seem so strange that they seem so determined to ignore other countries e.g. they have at least 3 amazon sites in europe and getting the kindle into some of those markets would seem to be their best chance of slowing down ePuB adoption. |

I know it's not Fictionwise but I have still managed to buy a restricted book at BoB today. I still had some reward dollars left so changed country of residence to US & it let me put it through.
Don't know if it would have fallen for the same trick if I had tried to pay with my credit card though. |

Do any of the currently available readers allow you to read both DRM'd ePUB and DRM-Free mobi? I know Bookeen is to launch firmware for Gen3 & Opus that will enable you to read either but not both at the same time.

The Astak's (EZ Reader, Pocket Pro) do. Since they do I assume the other Jinke/Hanlin rebrands like the BeBook do too.
